So many parents expect feeding to feel natural straight away, and when it doesn’t, it can feel confusing or even disheartening.

Feeding is natural, but it’s also learned. For you and your baby.

There’s positioning, timing, coordination, and communication all happening at once.

When it feels hard, it doesn’t mean you’re doing something wrong. It usually means you haven’t been properly supported yet, and that’s something we can change.

Past feeding experiences don’t define what’s possible moving forward.

Samantha’s story is a reminder that with the right support, things can feel very different. Not perfect, but clearer, calmer, and more manageable.

If you’ve been sitting on the idea of getting support, this could be your moment.

If feeding feels painful for the entire feed, it’s worth paying attention to.

Some tenderness in the early days can be part of your body adjusting, but ongoing pain is usually a sign that something is not quite right. Often it comes down to latch, positioning, or how your baby is using their mouth during the feed.

You don’t have to push through discomfort or hope it settles on its own. Small adjustments can make a big difference, and feeding can feel more comfortable with the right support.

If pain has become your normal, it doesn’t have to stay that way.

If you’d like help understanding what’s going on and how to improve it, support is always here.

Did you know that your breastmilk is constantly adapting.

Its composition changes not only across weeks and months, but even throughout a single feed. Early milk is more fluid and hydrating, while later milk becomes richer in fat to support growth and satiety.

Research also shows that breastmilk responds to your baby’s needs, with shifts in immune factors, hormones, and nutrients depending on age, environment, and even illness.

Understanding how dynamic breastmilk is can help build confidence in your body’s ability to support your baby.

Feeding is not just about volume. It is a responsive, biological system designed to adapt.

The right support doesn’t just change feeding. It changes how you feel within it.

Many parents come into a consult feeling unsure, overwhelmed, or constantly second guessing themselves. What shifts isn’t always the feeding straight away, it’s the understanding.

When you know what’s happening and why, everything starts to feel calmer. Small adjustments can make a big difference, build confidence, and help you feel more in control of your breastfeeding journey.

Support should not leave you with more questions. It should leave you feeling clearer, reassured, and capable.

If you’ve been feeling unsure about feeding, you don’t have to keep figuring it out on your own.

“It shouldn’t be this hard.”

And I want you to know that thought doesn’t mean you’re failing.

Feeding is natural, but it’s also learned. For you and your baby.

Sometimes small adjustments make a big difference. Sometimes reassurance changes everything.

Struggling does not mean you’re not capable. It means you haven’t been properly supported yet.

And that’s something we can change.

Two babies can show the same behaviour for completely different reasons. Two mums can have similar symptoms with different underlying causes.

Without assessment, advice can oversimplify or even create unnecessary stress.

That’s why I look at positioning, latch, milk transfer, history, baby behaviour, and your experience before suggesting changes.

Individualised support isn’t about being complicated. It’s about being accurate.

Families deserve guidance that fits their baby, not generic checklists.

Did you know I also volunteer with the Australian Breastfeeding Association?

Alongside my work at Lactology, I support the broader breastfeeding community and help ensure volunteers stay up to date with current evidence and guidelines.

Breastfeeding research evolves, and staying connected to professional networks means the guidance I share with families is informed, current, and grounded in science.

Supporting parents goes beyond one consult. It’s about strengthening the knowledge around them, too.
