3am. Wide awake. Already replaying that meeting and drafting tomorrow’s emails in your head.
It’s not a sleep problem. It’s a stress problem. When your nervous system’s been in “go” mode all day, cortisol can spike in the early hours and jolt you awake, ready to solve problems that can wait until morning.
A few things that help:
🌙 Do a brain dump before bed. Get tomorrow’s to-do list out of your head and onto paper
🌙 Set a hard stop on work, then do something that signals “the day is done” (shower, walk, change clothes)
🌙 No emails in bed. Your brain links the bed with whatever you do in it
🌙 If you wake, make your exhale longer than your inhale. It tells your body there’s no emergency
🌙 Keep your phone out of reach so you’re not tempted to check the time (or work emails)
But if you’re waking at 3am most nights, your body is asking for more than a better bedtime routine.
Take our free 2-minute quiz to find out what’s keeping your nervous system on high alert, and what it needs to let you sleep through.
