Does your child dread every finger prick? ๐Ÿ’™

For Liam, a 15-year-old living with Type 1 Diabetes, needle anxiety made daily blood glucose testing feel impossible. He avoided finger pricks, removed his CGM sensor early, and his HbA1c was worsening.

Then he tried NeedleCalm.

Within weeks:
โœ… Finger pricks went from 1โ€“2 a day to 3โ€“4 (as prescribed)
โœ… Anxiety dropped from 9/10 to 2/10
โœ… He started testing independently at school
โœ… Zero early CGM removals in 3 months

"I actually don't think about it anymore. I just put it on and do the test." โ€” Liam, 15

Needle anxiety is real. And it has real consequences for diabetes management. NeedleCalm is here to help. ๐Ÿฉน

Reactive care treats the wound.

Proactive care prevents the fear.

So much of healthcare is built around responding to distress โ€” calming a crying child after the needle, managing a panic attack in the waiting room, rescheduling the patient who just couldn't face it.

At NeedleCalmโ„ข, we believe the most compassionate thing you can do is prepare someone before the moment arrives.

A simple pad. Applied before the procedure. Using your body's own responses to calm the nerves โ€” literally.

Because care that starts early is care that actually works. ๐Ÿฉต

Sensor change day shouldn't feel like a battle. ๐Ÿ’‰

For so many families managing childhood diabetes, CGM sensor insertion anxiety is real โ€” and it's rarely talked about.

The tears. The refusals. The dread that builds before every change.

We've written about it โ€” honestly and practically โ€” in our latest blog with Diabetesshop.com. Including the evidence-based tools that help, and how NeedleCalm can make every sensor change calmer for your child and for you.

Happy International Nurses Day from the NeedleCalm team! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿฉบ

NeedleCalm was born from nursing โ€” from the clinical reality of watching patients, young and old, experience fear and distress around needle procedures, and knowing there had to be a better way.

Today we want to say a heartfelt thank you to every nurse who goes above and beyond to make their patients feel safe, heard, and cared for. You are the backbone of healthcare and we are honoured to support the work you do.

Thank you, nurses. Today and every day. ๐Ÿ’™

Tuesday night, our co-founder Elisha took the stage at the NSW MedTech Innovation Showcase in front of a room full of investors, clinicians, and health system leaders.

She opened with this:

โ€œThe most dangerous needle is not the one that goes in. Itโ€™s the one that stops someone from showing up.โ€

For up to 1 in 4 people, needle fear is a real and serious barrier to healthcare. It's not discomfort. It's blood tests avoided, vaccinations skipped, and treatments missed โ€” often for years.

NeedleCalm is an Australian-made, ARTG-listed Class I medical device that works in seconds โ€” cooling and tactile stimulation at the needle site. No drugs. No wait. No disruption to workflow.

We are not about making needles nicer. We are about making healthcare possible for the people who are too afraid to receive it.

If you or someone you know struggles with needle procedures โ€” we are here. And if you are an investor or partner who wants to be part of this โ€” we would love to connect. ๐Ÿ’™

Looking for an icebreaker before your childโ€™s next needle procedure? ๐ŸŽจ๐Ÿ’‰

Our Kids Activity Kits include large syringes to decorate โ€” and itโ€™s one of the gentlest ways to start that conversation.

No script. No big talk.
Just textas, a syringe, and suddenly theyโ€™re asking questions.
Telling you what theyโ€™re worried about.
And youโ€™re having the conversation that needed to happen โ€” without it feeling scary.

When a child makes a syringe their own โ€” something shifts. ๐Ÿ’™

POV: your child hates needle procedures. They also hate taking medicine from a syringe.

Coincidence? ๐Ÿค”

Itโ€™s not. Itโ€™s needle fear โ€” and it starts earlier than most parents realise.

Most parents wait until a procedure is already happening to try to manage it. By then the fear response has already kicked in. The anxiety, the tears, the physical resistance โ€” itโ€™s already in motion.

NeedleCalm is different because itโ€™s proactive, not reactive.

It works by stimulating the nerve endings at the insertion site BEFORE the procedure begins โ€” getting between the pain signal and the brain so the fear response never takes hold in the first place.

For parents, that means:

๐Ÿ’™ No more dread the night before an appointment
๐Ÿ’™ No more crying in the waiting room
๐Ÿ’™ No more guilt when you have to hold them down
๐Ÿ’™ No more watching your child leave an appointment more afraid than when they walked in

Just calm. For both of you.

Because needle fear doesnโ€™t get better on its own. But it absolutely can get better โ€” with the right approach, started early.

Donโ€™t wait for the next appointment. Start now.

We need your help, parents! ๐Ÿ‘‹

With FluMist (the nasal spray flu vaccine) getting a lot of attention this flu season, weโ€™re putting together some practical content to help families make informed decisions โ€” and we want to hear directly from YOU before we do.

Particularly if you have children aged 2โ€“7. ๐Ÿ‘ถ

Weโ€™d love to know:

๐Ÿค” Did you choose FluMist or the flu injection for your child this year โ€” and what made you decide?
๐Ÿค” Was the decision straightforward, or did you find yourself going back and forth?
๐Ÿค” Did your child have a say in which option they wanted?
๐Ÿค” If your child has needle phobia โ€” did FluMist feel like a relief, or did it come with its own challenges?
๐Ÿค” Did your GP or pharmacist explain the differences clearly, or did you have to find the information yourself?
๐Ÿค” Was there anything that surprised you about either option?
๐Ÿค” Was there any issue getting it into both nostrils? ๐Ÿ‘ƒ
๐Ÿค” And the one we really want to know โ€” what did your child say it tasted like? ๐Ÿ˜‚

And most importantly โ€” what would have been helpful to know BEFORE making the decision? What information was missing? What would have made the process easier for you and your child?

Every response helps us create better, more useful content for families just like yours. Drop your thoughts in the comments below, or send us a DM if youโ€™d prefer to share privately. ๐Ÿ’™

Please share this post โ€” the more parents who weigh in, the better the content we can create for your community.

๐ŸŒ World Immunisation Week 2026 starts today โ€” and this year's WHO theme couldn't be more important.

'For every generation, vaccines work.'

And at NeedleCalm, we'd add: for every generation, calmer delivery matters too. ๐Ÿ’™

Vaccines are extraordinary. But they only work when patients can get through the procedure. And the research tells us that for a significant portion of the population, needle fear is the barrier standing in the way.

Dr. Amy Baxter's research found that 63% of pre-teens reported needle fear of 5/10 or higher, and that children who received multiple injections in a single day between ages 4 and 6 were significantly more likely to carry that fear into their teenage years โ€” and be less likely to complete important vaccine series as a result.

Dr. Anna Taddio's research found that 64% of children and over 20% of adults reported needle fear. And in April 2021, Dr. Baxter testified to the US Department of Health and Human Services, predicting that 24% of adults would not get vaccinated due to rationalisations driven by needle fear. A national survey that same month found that 52% of unvaccinated adults had moderate to severe needle fear โ€” and those with the highest distrust of vaccine safety were three times more likely to have the highest needle fear.

This is not anecdote. This is evidence. And it demands a response from every healthcare system, every clinic, every pharmacy administering vaccines this week.

Because vaccines work. And calm delivery makes them possible. ๐ŸŒ
