OILs vs CREAMS - Which is better?
Firstly, we’re talking about plant-carrier oils, not essential oils. Applying essential oils directly to your skin is (generally) a bad idea. Secondly, why are we pitting oils and creams against each other? They can - and should - be friends.
Oils are simple: they’ve been extracted from the fatty part of a plant (usually the seeds or kernels) and sold as a single oil or a blend.
Creams are made up of water, emulsifiers and waxes. Sometimes also clay, vitamins, and minerals, amongst other things.
BUT... the simplicity of oils doesn't make them *better* than creams. They’re just different.
Oils lock in existing moisture (which is why applying oil after showering feels so delicious). But oils can’t drive moisture into the skin the way creams do.
The problem is, moisture from even the most H2O-heavy cream will evaporate pretty quickly if there’s no oily barrier. The key for me is to apply moisture with a cream, then lock it in with an oil.
If you use a small molecule oil (like h**p) it's smooth sailing for your pores. And if you use a lightweight cream, you can easily mix it with an oil.
Like most things in life, it’s not one or the other, but a wonderful symbiosis
(But…if you pushed me, I do prefer oils, hence this pictorial ode 😉)
