Most climate conversations going on around the world are focused on emissions. When the reality is, even if emissions got to 0% it would only bring us back to 1975 levels in 200 years (Graeme Sait).
Almost 500 billion tonnes of Carbon has left our soils and is now in the atmosphere, causing a massive issues, and it needs to be returned to the soil as humus. For perspective, Industries create about 250 billion tonnes.
Right now our oceans are taking the brunt of it (and its causing widespread ecological issues)
Humus is critical, as we all now know to the health of plants, animals, humans and our planet.
One of the biggest problems contributing to humus leaving the soils and going into the atmosphere is:
1. Commercial farming
2. Chemical Fertilizers
(Some people will already be connecting dots here).
Everytime we buy produce from commercial farming we contribute to stripping the soil of humus.
As we're all becoming soil experts here hahaha, why not share the love everywhere in terms of education around solutions.
The best solutions often are the most simple.
So how do we ADD humus back to the soil?
Two simple ways:
1. Support regenerative farming - this practice adds humus to the soil.
2. Share the beauty of people creating their very own natural compost. Every day looking at that compost is the reminder of the miracle of life.
It's a much broader conversation, but I felt called to share, its always such a cool synergy, that while drinking soil for your health and sharing how great you feel to people confused why you would ever be crazy enough to drink it, that you can have an amazing discussion around how soil is life and critical to our future generations quality of life and taking the stress off the ocean and play our part in spreading the message. Imagine how many new composts could be created.
