In the nutrition and longevity space, supplements are a huge drawcard.

And while they can be incredibly therapeutic and in some cases may even support longevity there are a few important caveats:

-Quality matters: look for third-party testing, non-synthetic forms, and correct dosages
-They can do more harm than good: think medication interactions, nutrient-to-nutrient imbalances, or even toxicity (ie: B6 which we’re seeing more of)
-Many contain unnecessary binders and fillers -They can place added stress on the gut and liver
My take?
👉🏽Start by fixing the gut. Check your bloods. Prioritise food first. Nail the basics- sleep, movement, sunshine, stress, environment.
If you’re going to supplement, it’s best to do so under guidance we have access to practitioner-only ranges, and can dose them properly based on your individual needs.

I’m a big fan of magnesium, It’s essential for over 300 enzymatic reactions in the body, but each form serves a different therapeutic purpose.

🩸 When it comes to testing, serum magnesium doesn’t accurately reflect your overall magnesium status, it only measures what’s circulating outside the cells, which makes up just 1% of your body’s total magnesium. The majority is stored in bone, followed by muscle and soft tissue.

👉🏽This means bloods can appear “normal” even when there’s a functional deficiency inside the cells. The body works hard to keep serum magnesium within a tight range by pulling from tissue stores which can mask underlying depletion.

👉🏽That’s why I often prescribe magnesium based on clinical symptoms: neuromuscular tension, poor sleep, cramps, twitching, anxiety, constipation, PMS these often give a clearer picture than serum levels alone.

Citrus fruits especially oranges, grapefruit, lemons, and limes can inhibit an enzyme called beta-glucuronidase which is beneficial when you’re trying to support phase II liver detoxification and oestrogen clearance. It’s also a marker that we look at when doing a complete gut microbiome test.

From what I see a lot of in practice is beta-glucuronidase is often elevated in dysbiosis and associated with increased enterohepatic recirculation of oestrogens.

What we can do? 👉🏽 Supporting with citrus intake (alongside fibres like flaxseeds, calcium D-glucarate, and targeted probiotics) can assist in lowering this enzyme & may help to regulate hormones.

The gut plays a vital role in increasing healthspan and, from what I’ve seen, is often overlooked in longevity conversations. It acts like a biochemical command center. Through its metabolites and microbial signals, it can influence which genes are turned on or off a process known as epigenetic modulation.

We inherit our genes, but epigenetics is what pulls the trigger. It’s the modifiable layer shaped by diet, stress, sleep, and especially gut health that determines how those genes are expressed.

Sleep Hack: KIWI FRUIT +Stack Nutrition + Routine + Supplements

Nutrition hack: Include a light, protein + complex carb dinner (think salmon + sweet potato + greens) to support serotonin and melatonin production. Add in your 1-2 kiwi fruits

Solid bedtime routine: Dim lights, cut screens, try breathwork or journaling.

Supplement stack:
– Magnesium glycinate 150–300mg (calming, supports GABA)
– L-theanine 200mg (smooths stress and helps wind down racing thoughts)

Cognitive decline is one of the leading causes of reduced healthspan. Here are some potential ways the gut can impact cognitive health.

By doing a gut microbiome test, we look at the most abundant bifidobacteria and lactobacillus species within the gut, along with pathogens, inflammatory markers, and other digestive markers.

And we are back! What a start to 2025—just finished 6 days at Clinique La Prairie in Switzerland, the original “longevity clinic,” which has been around for over 90 years. We had intensive days filled with medical testing, holistic treatments, fitness assessments, spa treatments, and some incredible food. I feel absolutely blessed to have had this opportunity to learn from some of the world’s most renowned experts.
I’m excited to bring all of this knowledge into my practice this year and combine it with the expertise at (saving you a trip to Switzerland). It was also interesting to compare some of the approaches. In my opinion, what we’re already doing, particularly around gut microbiome and genetic testing, is just as good, if not better 💁🏼‍♀️
