7 Things You’re Not Responsible For

So many of us spend our lives carrying responsibilities that were never ours to carry.

We take on other people’s emotions, try to fix their problems, seek their approval, and exhaust ourselves trying to keep everyone happy.

But what if the freedom you’ve been looking for starts with letting go?

✨ You’re not responsible for other people’s happiness. Let them be unhappy.

✨ You’re not responsible for making people understand your choices. Let them be confused.

✨ You’re not responsible for managing someone else’s emotions. Let them feel how they feel.

✨ You’re not responsible for proving your worth to people who don’t see it. Let them underestimate you.

✨ You’re not responsible for meeting everyone’s expectations. Let them be disappointed.

✨ You’re not responsible for rescuing people from their problems. Let them figure it out.

✨ You’re not responsible for managing everything around you. Let go of what isn’t yours to carry.

The truth is, many of us were taught that being a good person meant fixing, helping, pleasing, explaining, and sacrificing ourselves for everyone else.

But constantly carrying the weight of other people’s lives comes at a cost.

It costs your peace.

It costs your energy.

It costs your happiness.

And sometimes, it costs your identity.

You can care about people without carrying their burdens.

You can love people without rescuing them.

You can be kind without abandoning yourself.

The moment you stop trying to control how others think, feel, or react is the moment you reclaim your energy for the things that actually matter.

Stop wasting your time trying to manage what was never yours to manage.

Focus on your own growth.

Whatever you’re not changing… you’re choosing.

That might sound harsh, but it’s also the truth that creates change.

Because staying in the same patterns, the same habits, the same environment, the same thoughts… is still a decision. Not always a conscious one, but a decision nonetheless.

We often wait for the “right time,” more motivation, more clarity, more confidence… but real change begins the moment you decide that staying the same is no longer comfortable enough to keep choosing.

Growth isn’t always loud or dramatic.
Sometimes it looks like small, consistent decisions:
• choosing discipline over comfort
• choosing honesty with yourself over avoidance
• choosing progress over perfection
• choosing to show up when you don’t feel like it

If something in your life isn’t aligned with who you want to become, the question isn’t just “Why is this happening to me?”
It’s also “What am I continuing to choose?”

The good news is… if you’re choosing it, you can change it.

And the moment you take ownership, you take back control.

You don’t need to overhaul your entire life overnight.
You just need to start choosing differently… one decision at a time.

This is your reminder not to give up on yourself.

I lost 70 kilos.
I became a mother.
I rebuilt myself mentally, emotionally, and physically against odds that once felt impossible.

And none of it happened because I was perfect.

It happened because I kept going.

So if you need this reminder today:

• Healing is not linear.
• Growth is uncomfortable for a reason.
• Transformation takes longer than people think.
• Some days survival is enough.
• Resting is not failing.
• Starting over does not erase your progress.
• Motherhood changes you, but it can also awaken you.
• Your mind will give up before your soul does.
• The hardest seasons often build the strongest version of you.

Keep going.

One day you’ll look back and realise the person you are becoming was created in the moments you almost quit… but didn’t.

The moment someone tries to remove your people — that’s your first red flag. 🚩

I was 36 years old when I met someone who slowly tried to convince me that the people who loved me most weren’t good for me.

My closest people. The ones who had been there for years. Suddenly they were the problem.

And I want you to know — when everything fell apart, those were the exact people who showed up for me. Every single one of them.

That’s not a coincidence. That’s what manipulation looks like.

Here’s what I need you to understand:

🚩 If they criticise everyone who loved you before them — that’s a red flag.

🚩 If you find yourself apologising for spending time with your family — that’s a red flag.

🚩 If your friendships are dying since they came into your life — that’s a red flag.

🚩 If you feel more alone now than you did when you were single — that’s a red flag.

Love does not isolate you. Control does.

We are living in a world where manipulation is dressed up as protection. Don’t be fooled.

Your people — the ones who knew you before — they’re not the threat. They’re your lifeline. Hold onto them.

Then at seven months pregnant my ex assaulted me and I was the one charged with assault. I spent 3 years fighting in court. Won my case, my story made the news.
