If you’re preparing for a baby, building strength now can be the best gift to your future self.

It can not only help you push during labor, but also prepare your body for recovery post-partum as well.

That same foundation is also what helps support your tissue healing after a vaginal birth and guides your core through abdominal separation recovery.

By investing in your physical strength today, you are giving your body the support it needs to heal and adapt for the transition into motherhood with more ease and comfort 🤍

Anticipating the pain of labour can feel daunting. Your body is doing something powerful and unfamiliar and it's normal to wonder how you’ll handle it.

When you know the tools to work with your contractions, you can move through each wave with confidence instead of fear.

By understanding what your body needs at each stage, things will start to feel more manageable and less overwhelming.

When it comes to pushing techniques, many people aren’t actually taught how to do it.

You might feel like you need to switch everything ‘on’ all at once. In reality, a gentler, more coordinated approach often works better.

Keeping your jaw relaxed can help the pelvic floor stay more open and responsive, since they’re closely connected. When the jaw is soft, the pelvic floor tends to follow.

Take a deep breath in, then let your body gently push down in its own rhythm rather than forcing or straining. When it’s working well, you might notice a deeper sound that's almost guttural (like a small roar).

That’s simply your body working in its own strong, instinctive way and working with you, not against you.

If you’d like more personalised guidance on pushing techniques, we can help coach you through the technique verbally or with ultrasound.

A surprising number of people picture labour as laying back on a bed - but you’ve got a whole menu of positions to choose from, and most of them don’t involve being flat on your back at all.

Staying upright and mobile in early labour is well accepted by women and can help things feel more bearable. A deep squat can be particularly helpful, as it encourages the pelvis to open and the pelvic floor to be lengthened and more flexible.

Positions don’t need to change throughout labour, unless you have an epidural, and you can stick with whatever feels most supportive for your body as things progress.

If you are trying to decide if a C-section is right for you, it can help to know how the physical healing process differs from a vaginal birth.

While your major milestone timelines are similar to a vaginal birth, your focus moves toward supporting your abdominal incision wound rather than your perineum (even down to the way you get out of bed).

It is also common to experience post-surgery nerve changes like numbness or tingling around your scar, which is just a normal part of how the tissue heals. You may also want to discuss with your OB or your physio treatment options if you have a history of keloid scars.

No matter which path you choose, going into birth equipped with the right information and strategies is the best way to feel prepared for your own recovery.

When we think about preparing for a baby, it's easy to focus on the nursery, hospital bag and birth plan.

But your body deserves preparation too 🤍

I’ll never advocate for a perfect birth or a strict birth plan, there are far too many variables at play! I will ALWAYS recommend education to my mums-and-dads-to-be.

Education is empowerment when you’re in the delivery room (or the birth pool). Understanding your body and your options can make labour and recovery feel less like the great unknown, and it’s a great way to have less regrets when bub is earth side.

If you’d like personalised support to prep your pelvic floor during your pregnancy, we’re here to help.

Pelvic pain that disrupts your life can be extremely frustrating.

It may feel like a dull ache, heaviness or pressure through the pelvis, or a sharp, stabbing sensation that radiates into the hips, groin or buttocks.

Often, it becomes more noticeable with activities like walking, rolling in bed, climbing stairs, standing on one leg or getting in and out of the car, sometimes it’s just there all. the. time.

At Alaga Therapy, we know pelvic pain is rarely caused by just one thing. Your pelvic floor, muscle strength, breathing patterns and the way your body manages load can all play a role.

Because these factors often overlap, treatment starts with understanding the bigger picture so we can address the true drivers of your pain and help you get back to moving with more comfort and confidence.

You don't need to accept pelvic pain as your new normal. Get in contact with us through the link in our bio 🤍

If you’ve ever had mastitis, you’ve probably been given a long list of ‘fixes’: massage the blockage out, pump constantly, heat, ice, cabbage leaves, and feed through the pain - it can be hard to determine what is right and wrong.

But the guidance has changed! The current evidence says something a bit different. Settle the inflammation first, with ice, anti-inflammatories (where appropriate), feeding as normal rather than over-emptying (which then causes an increase in milk supply), and gentle handling rather than aggressive massage that can damage already-sore tissue.

Mastitis can be miserable, but you don’t have to manage it with outdated advice. If something feels off - or you’re running a fever or feeling unwell - that's a sign to come in for a visit!

Breastfeeding is hard enough as it is. If you’re dealing with breast pain, redness or a sore lump that won’t shift - let's clear some things up first.

What you might be calling a ‘blocked duct’ probably isn't blocked. Mastitis is inflammation and swelling around the breast tissue, which presses on ducts from the outside. Why does this matter? Because old advice re trying to clear a blocked duct (aggressive massage, pumping to drain the ‘blockage’) can actually cause trauma to the breast tissue and worsen the inflammation.

Stagnant milk, ineffective milk removal, or trauma to the breast (if your baby bites, or your toddler throws a toy at your b**b) are common culprits, especially if your baby’s feeds are irregular.

At Alaga Therapy, we help you manage blocked ducts and mastitis early and safely by supporting effective milk drainage, easing breast inflammation and discomfort so you can feel more comfortable and confident in your daily feeding routine.
