What is Positive Behaviour Support? 🌱

Positive Behaviour Support, or PBS, is a person-centred approach that seeks to understand why a behaviour is occurring, not simply stop it.

By looking at communication, environment, wellbeing, relationships and individual needs, we can develop practical supports that improve quality of life and help people feel safe, understood and empowered.

At Impact Allied Health, we believe that behaviour is communication and every person deserves to be met with curiosity, compassion and respect.

Being told to “calm down” can feel dismissive, especially when someone is already overwhelmed.

Instead, acknowledge their feelings, reduce pressure and offer clear choices. Regulation is more likely when a person feels safe, heard and supported. 🩷💜

Every person is different, so support should always be responsive to their individual communication and regulation needs.
