B6 Toxicity and Me

B6 Toxicity and Me Accidental author of B6 Toxicity and Me. Sharing my journey with Vitamin B6 toxicity — a hidden cause of nerve damage that’s often misdiagnosed.

Raising awareness, offering support, and shining a light on what too many doctors miss.

Did you know the TGA advises healthcare practitioners to consider vitamin B6 toxicity in patients presenting with symptoms of peripheral neuropathy?

Symptoms can include:
⚡ Tingling or pins and needles
⚡ Numbness
⚡ Burning sensations
⚡ Balance difficulties
⚡ Electric shock sensations

One challenge is that vitamin B6 is not routinely included in standard blood tests.

Nobody can tell whether you're vitamin B6 deficient or vitamin B6 toxic by looking at you.
Not a chemist.
Not a chiropractor.
Not a massage therapist.
Not a supplement label.
And not Dr Google.

The only way to know whether your vitamin B6 level is too low, normal or too high, is through appropriate blood testing interpreted by your healthcare professional.

If you're experiencing unexplained neurological symptoms, make sure all supplements are part of the conversation. Multiple products can contribute to your total daily B6 intake.

🎯 Day 28 of 30 Days of B6 Toxicity Facts

Only a blood test can determine whether your B6 level is low, normal, or elevated.

Symptoms can include:

⚡ Tingling or pins and needles
⚡ Numbness
⚡ Burning sensations
⚡ Balance difficulties
⚡ Electric shock sensations

One challenge is that vitamin B6 is not routinely included in standard blood tests.

And here's something important:

Nobody can tell whether you're vitamin B6 deficient or vitamin B6 toxic by looking at you.

Not a chemist.

Not a chiropractor.

Not a massage therapist.

Not a supplement label.

And not Dr Google.

The only way to know whether your vitamin B6 level is too low, too high, or within range is through appropriate blood testing interpreted by your healthcare professional.

If you're experiencing unexplained neurological symptoms, make sure all supplements are part of the conversation. Multiple products can contribute to your total daily B6 intake.

A blood test is the only way to know if you are deficient, within range or toxic.

Day 27: Supplement Stacking

Many people assume vitamin B6 toxicity comes from taking one high-dose supplement.

My experience was different.

A multivitamin here.
A magnesium supplement there.
A protein powder.
An electrolyte drink.
A sleep formula.
A fortified food.

Individually, they didn't seem concerning. Together, they added up.

This is known as supplement stacking — and it's one of the reasons vitamin B6 toxicity can be so difficult to recognise.

In today's B6 Toxicity Fact, I explore how multiple products can contribute to your daily B6 intake and why it's important to check every supplement and fortified product you're using.

Vitamin B6 is an essential nutrient, but more isn't always better.

📖 My own journey with B6 toxicity inspired me to write B6 Toxicity and Me, a book about diagnosis, recovery, and the lessons I learned along the way. The podcast is now out on all Podcast Streaming Services.

🔸 Check your supplements
🔸 Check your protein products
🔸 Check your electrolyte drinks
🔸 Check your fortified foods

Love it

Apparently “feeling a bit rundown” and “grabbing a vitamin at Aldi” was basically one of my personality traits before my B6 toxicity diagnosis 😅

Today I checked a few everyday supermarket supplements and found vitamin B6 levels ranging from 10 mg to 50 mg per serve — all carrying the TGA warning for peripheral neuropathy.

Vitamin B6 is essential, but many people don’t realise it can appear across multiple products at once.

Check your labels friends… because apparently adulting now includes reading the fine print on vitamins 👀

DAY 26 – B6 Toxicity Facts

🛒 Real World Examples

Today I walked into Aldi to see how much vitamin B6 appears in ordinary supermarket supplements.

Vitamin B6 can appear in a wide range of everyday products — often at levels many consumers may not expect.

Examples found:
• Activated B Complex – 36.5 mg P5P (equivalent to 25 mg B6)
• Men’s High Potency Multivitamin – 16.2 mg P5P (equivalent to 10 mg B6)
• Women’s High Potency Multivitamin – 60.776 mg pyridoxine HCl (equivalent to 50 mg B6)
• Vitamin B+C Effervescent – 12.2 mg pyridoxine HCl (equivalent to 10 mg B6)

All of these products carry the Australian TGA warning for vitamin B6.

“WARNING - Stop taking this medication if you experience tingling, burning or numbness and see your healthcare practitioner as soon as possible. (Contains vitamin B6)"

Healthdirect Australia states that excess vitamin B6 from supplements can affect the nervous system and may cause peripheral neuropathy, including tingling, burning or numbness.

If you have these symptoms and have been taking products containing B6 it is important to see your GP and request a B6 Blood test as soon as possible.

Recommended dietary intake for most adults is approximately 1.3–2 mg/day (including pregnancy and breastfeeding).

⚠️ General information only. Always speak with your healthcare professional regarding your individual situation.
