Last week I was lucky enough to meet with the lovely Abby, Midwife and Doula . It was fantastic to chat about all things pregnancy, birth and postpartum, and hear about the wonderful support and antenatal education she provides to her clients.

One of my favourite parts of running my own business is meeting other local professionals who genuinely care about supporting women and families.

If you’re currently pregnant and looking for a antenatal education led by a super knowledgeable and caring midwife, Abby’s your gal!

It’s always reassuring to know there are so many amazing women supporting women in our local community.

I recently had the privilege to speak with an antenatal group about pelvic floor health and birth preparation 🤍

We covered everything from pelvic floor function and breathing strategies to birth positioning, pushing, perineal massage and recovery after birth.

One of my favourite parts of birth preparation is helping women and their partners feel more informed, empowered and less anxious heading into birth.

Birth prep isn’t about perfection — it’s about understanding your body, knowing your options, and feeling supported.

If you’re pregnant and wondering whether birth preparation physiotherapy could help you, feel free to reach out ✨

🤍 Physiotherapy Birth Preparation 🤍

If you’re feeling unsure about how to prepare for birth, you’re not alone and I’m here to help.

Physio-led birth prep gives you personalised, practical tools you’ll actually use on the day:

✨ How to relax your pelvic floor (yes, this matters just as much as strengthening!)
✨ Positions to help bub move down more easily
✨ Pain management strategies and breathing techniques to manage contractions
✨ Ways your partner can support you during labour
✨ What to expect from your body — let’s make birth less scary and unknown

Knowledge = confidence 🙌
And confidence can completely change how you experience your birth.

It’s about taking control of the things you can - to feel calm, capable, supported and empowered 💫

Mastitis or blocked ducts? Here’s how physio can help 🤱✨

Dealing with a sore, lumpy breast; redness; or that “coming down with the flu” feeling while breastfeeding? You’re not alone—and physio can help.

Physiotherapy can support mastitis and blocked ducts using therapeutic ultrasound as part of treatment.

🤍This can help to:
• Settle inflammation and reduce pain
• Improve circulation to the area
• Support milk flow and relieve blockage

It’s a gentle, non-invasive option that can be really helpful alongside feeding support and simple strategies at home.

🏡 And the best part? I bring the ultrasound to you—because leaving the house with a newborn (and mastitis) is a lot.

If something doesn’t feel right, early support can make a big difference. Reach out if you need help 🤍

✨ PSA✨ Your pelvic floor does NOT need to be switched on 24/7.

Yup, you heard right, It’s not meant to be constantly “on”.
It’s meant to be responsive.

Your pelvic floor should be able to:
• relax 😌
• stretch
• react quickly when needed
• handle load (like running, lifting, life)

Too much gripping can cause just as many issues as weakness.

So if your goal is to “fix it”… start with understanding how it actually works.

Book a pelvic floor assessment via the link in bio or just reach out for a chat✨

Your pelvic floor goals for 2026 shouldn’t be simply to “do more squeezing”.

A healthy pelvic floor isn’t just strong — it’s dynamic.

It also needs to be able to:
• fully relax
• lengthen and move
• coordinate with your breath
• respond to load and impact

Constant tightening can be just as problematic as weakness.

So if your new year goal is to sort out your pelvic floor, start with understanding it first.

That’s where real progress begins.

If you’ve ever met me, or any other women’s health physio, you will know that we love to know all about your bowels and toilet habits!

Good bowel habits aren’t just about comfort — they’re a key part of pelvic floor health.

A good place to start with bowels is thinking about how to sit on the toilet the right way:
✨ Feet supported (think small stool or footrest)
✨ Knees slightly higher than hips
✨ Lean forward, elbows on knees
✨ Relax your tummy and don’t strain!

Taking your time and avoiding pushing helps protect your pelvic floor and prevent issues like prolapse or haemorrhoids.

Your bowel function says a lot about your pelvic health 🧻

✨ Symptoms of Pelvic Floor Dysfunction ✨

Your pelvic floor quietly works hard every day — supporting your bladder, bowel, and reproductive organs, helping with posture, and playing a big role in core strength.
When things aren’t working quite right, you may notice:

🔹 Pelvic pain or heaviness
🔹 Leaking with coughing, sneezing, or exercise (incontinence)
🔹 Constipation or difficulty emptying
🔹 Bladder urgency (that “gotta go NOW” feeling)
🔹 Ongoing lower back or hip pain

💡These symptoms are super common, but they are NOT normal. If you recognise any of these signs, a pelvic floor assessment may help you get answers, relief, and a plan to find your “new normal”.

Your pelvic floor does a lot of behind the scenes work for you — from bladder and bowel control to supporting your pelvic organs and s*xual function.

If you notice any of these symptoms, it could be a sign your pelvic floor needs some love 💕 (and no, busy lady, it’s not something you should, or have to “put up with”).

Here are 5 common signs of pelvic floor dysfunction:
1. Incontinence 💧Leaking when you laugh, cough, sneeze or exercise. Common, but not normal.
2. Urgency ⏱ That sudden “gotta go NOW” feeling, sometimes with little warning.
3. Constipation 💩 Difficulty emptying your bowels, straining or feeling like you can’t fully go.
4. Painful s*x 🔥 Discomfort or pain with intimacy, tampon use or pelvic examinations.
5. Pelvic heaviness ⬇️ A dragging, pressure or “falling out” feeling in your va**na.

Let’s stop ignoring these SOS calls from our pelvic floor and start talking about the issues. An assessment is the first step to getting you back to feeling strong and confident.
