5 signs you’re progressing in your Reformer practice 💫

Progress is not always about doing a more advanced exercise. Sometimes, it looks like this:

1. You understand your instructor’s cues more easily
2. Your movements feel smoother and more controlled
3. You can maintain your alignment for longer
4. Your balance, coordination and body awareness are improving
5. You leave class feeling stronger and more confident 💪

These changes may feel small, but they are signs that your body is learning, adapting and becoming stronger with every class.

Celebrate every baby step. They all count. Do you remember your first Reformer class?

The way you move today shapes how independently you live tomorrow 🌿

Strength training is not only about what your body can do now. It helps you preserve the everyday abilities that matter as you age: getting up from a chair, carrying your groceries, climbing stairs and moving with confidence.

Even grip strength plays an important role in daily independence, helping you hold, lift and carry with greater security.

Every movement you practise today is an investment in your future self. It is never too early, or too late to start.

Did you know that OM offers Active Age every Monday? A class specially designed for older adults and people returning to movement after an injury. Book your class and keep moving towards a stronger, more independent future ✨

You can’t train well without fuelling well 🔋
Eating enough supports far more than simply getting through your workout. Your body needs adequate energy to power movement, repair muscle tissue, replenish glycogen stores and adapt to the demands of training.

A varied intake also provides protein, carbohydrates, healthy fats, vitamins and minerals that support muscle function, bone health, energy production and recovery. Together with proper hydration, these nutrients help your joints and connective tissues function well and keep your body prepared for movement.

When energy intake remains lower than the body’s needs, the effects can extend beyond feeling tired during a workout. Low energy availability can affect concentration, immune function, bone health, hormonal function and the body’s ability to recover. This is why sufficient and varied nutrition is not separate from physical performance. It is one of the foundations that supports it.

Please note: This post provides general wellbeing information only and is not personalised nutrition advice. For guidance suited to your individual needs, please consult an Accredited Practising Dietitian or another appropriately qualified healthcare professional.

You may know the exercise, but one cue can change the way you move 💛
Your instructor’s cues are there to help you place your body correctly before and during each exercise. Small adjustments to your posture, alignment or breathing can change how a movement feels and which muscles are working.

Listening carefully helps you perform each exercise with greater control, improve your technique and reduce unnecessary strain on your joints and muscles.

Take your time, follow the cues and ask questions when something doesn’t feel right. Moving well is just as important as completing the exercise. ✨

A healthy spine is made to move 💛
Spinal mobility is the ability to move with coordination, control and ease through flexion, extension, side bending and rotation.

It’s not just about flexibility. It’s the balance between movement, stability and control that allows your spine to adapt to different postures and loads, support everyday activities and protect your body.

A healthy spine isn’t perfectly straight. It maintains its natural curves while moving freely and comfortably.

Move gently, listen to your body and give your spine the care it deserves. ✨

Rest is part of your training 💛
While you sleep, your body is still working. It repairs tissues, supports muscle protein synthesis, replenishes energy stores and regulates hormones involved in recovery and muscle growth.

Sleep also supports your immune system, concentration and the consolidation of new movement skills, helping your body and mind adapt to the work you do during training.

Exercise creates the stimulus, but recovery allows progress to happen. Prioritise your sleep, listen to your body and remember that resting is just as important as training. ✨

Did you know that slower movement can sometimes require more control? ✨

When we remove momentum, our muscles have to work harder to guide and stabilise each part of the movement.

This is one of the reasons controlled movement is so important in Pilates. Moving slowly and with intention helps improve technique, build body awareness and engage the right muscles more effectively.

Sometimes, slowing down is where the real challenge begins. 💛
