THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX. ⚰️

When planning a funeral, most people immediately think of a coffin or a casket. But there is another option gaining traction in mainstream Australia — and it involves no box at all.
It’s called a shroud, and while it has been a sacred tradition in Muslim, Jewish, and Bahá’í cultures for centuries, it is now becoming widely available for cremations.

In fact, Australia's largest funeral provider, InvoCare, just quietly approved shrouded cremations at around 20 of its sites across NSW and Queensland, including Toowoomba.

Have you got questions about this? The Death Expo is the place for you.

JUST OVER FOUR MONTHS TO GO!

Whether it’s wearing black to a funeral, throwing dirt on a grave, not saying their name, or gathering quietly in a chapel or loudly in a pub, we all follow some sort of ritual in death. Regardless of the setting, these rituals provide the respect and release we need to mourn and move forward.

It's important to acknowledge and uphold the diverse ways we say goodbye. While the practices are cultural, the grief is universal.

This is a very interesting article written by one of our Death Expo organisers:

There are deeply significant protocols surrounding the naming of Indigenous Australians who have died.

Veteran broadcaster James Valentine wanted his Voluntary Assisted Dying choice widely known.

After last year's huge response, VAD is once again one of the key presentations and discussions at this year's free Death Expo on October 17.

A master behind the microphone, James Valentine's legacy from effortlessly connecting with audiences to spotlighting jazz now extends to raising critical awareness of voluntary assisted dying (VAD).

The veteran 702 ABC Sydney broadcaster, 64, passed away at home using VAD two years after a cancer diagnosis.

For someone who revelled in finding joy in the ordinary and bringing humanity to radio, one of Valentine's final wishes was to make it publicly known his choice to access NSW's VAD laws.
