🍜 DID SOMEBODY SAY RAMEN?

This week I ignored the catalogue meal ideas and built a better, cheaper dinner instead.

Using chicken drumsticks, white miso, vegetables and a few simple ingredients, I made a homemade chicken miso ramen that delivered more nutrition, more flavour and more value than many of the heavily promoted catalogue offers.

In this week’s episode of Navigating the Noise we also explore:

✅ The best protein specials from Coles, Woolworths and Aldi
✅ Why Japanese cuisine gets so much right nutritionally
✅ The Beef Ladder 🥩
✅ Protein marketing and health halos
✅ This week’s best buys and biggest watch-outs
✅ Next week’s recipe challenge 🍜

💬 Have you ever made ramen at home, or do you usually order it when you’re out?

This is probably the most personal video I've shared online.

The photo at the beginning was taken in January 2016.

At the time, my life was pretty much on rinse-and-repeat mode. Work. Responsibilities. Get through the day. Do it all again tomorrow.

I wasn't really thriving. I was coping.

Like many people, I went looking for answers.

Books. Podcasts. Articles. Social media.

I was collecting pieces of the puzzle, but nobody was showing me how they fit together.

That journey eventually led me to study clinical nutrition and create Fast Forward Nutrition.

If you've ever felt overwhelmed by conflicting health advice, endless opinions, and the feeling that everyone seems to have the answer, I hope this story resonates with you.

If you're not quite sure where to start, that's okay too.

I've created blogs, videos, FAQs and free resources to help people navigate the noise and better understand where they're at right now.

Take a look around.

And when you're ready, I'd be happy to help you put the pieces together.

My wife used to say, “You eat the same as me. I don’t understand it.”

The truth is, neither did I.

It would be another four years before I started connecting the dots.

I want to be the support I wish I had.

The client sees a mess. The clinician sees a pattern.

Over the next few weeks, I’m sharing some of the videos and articles that explain who I am, how I work, and why I became a clinical nutritionist.

First up:

Why Did I Study Clinical Nutrition?

I didn’t study nutrition just to talk about food. Food is often where the story becomes visible — but the real work is understanding the pattern behind someone’s symptoms, energy, habits and health.

Read/watch here:

Why did I study clinical nutrition? I explain what drew me to nutrition, why food is only part of the story, and how clinical nutrition helps identify patterns behind symptoms, energy, metabolism and health.

🛒 Where’s dinner hiding this week?

This week I found:

✅ A shelf-stable soup with a surprisingly simple ingredient list

✅ A convenient high-protein meal that delivers protein, fibre and magnesium—but comes at a cost

✅ A “Shred & Burn” shake with some interesting label claims

✅ A few protein specials worth considering if you’re looking to stretch the grocery budget

The goal isn’t perfection. It’s making better decisions more often.

Ever noticed some foods are almost impossible to stop eating once they’re opened?

That’s not an accident.

Supermarkets heavily promote foods with what’s called “expandable consumption” — foods that are easy to keep eating distracted, late at night, or while watching TV.

Most people don’t accidentally finish a bowl of broccoli.

But chips, chocolate, popcorn and soft drink? Different story.

The more available these foods are in the house, the more likely we are to keep eating them — especially when tired, stressed, or looking to “switch off.”

That’s part of why promotions like “Big Night In” work so well.

I unpacked the psychology, the rewards system, the marketing mechanics and the nutritional consequences in this week’s Navigating the Noise video.

Question:
What food disappears fastest in your house once it’s opened?

17/05/2026

Sometimes it’s not a lack of motivation.

It’s years of stress, routines, convenience eating, low energy, inconsistency and feeling like your body no longer responds the way it used to.

A lot of people quietly feel stuck.

This carousel is not about perfection or quick fixes.

It’s about recognising that health, nutrition and metabolism are personal — and that there may be a more realistic path forward than constantly starting over.

Evidence-based.
Judgement-free.

We can get stuck eating the same proteins week after week without really thinking about it.

You don’t need to default to red meat all the time. Bringing seafood into the mix more regularly can help diversify your nutrition and increase omega-3 in the diet.
