September is Gynaecological Cancer Awareness Month

Gynaecological cancers can affect the v***a, va**na, cervix, uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries, peritoneum and placenta. This month is an opportunity to learn more about the signs and symptoms of gynaecological cancers and to encourage conversations about women’s health.

It’s important to be aware of changes that are unusual for you and get them assessed by a health professional. Symptoms can include:
• Unusual va**nal bleeding, including bleeding between periods, after menopause, or during/after s*x
• Abdominal or pelvic pain
• Unexplained weight loss
• Changes in urination or bowel habits
• Difficulty urinating
• Blood in the urine

These symptoms can have many different causes and do not necessarily mean cancer. However, if you notice a persistent or unusual change that concerns you, it is important to discuss it with your doctor.

Regular cervical screening is also an important part of looking after your health. Your GP can provide advice about screening and whether it is appropriate for you.

💜 Let’s help raise awareness and encourage open conversations about gynaecological health.

Hello, Spring🌼

As the days become warmer and flowers begin to bloom, spring is a great time to check in with your health and wellbeing.

Seasonal changes can bring challenges such as hay fever, asthma flare-ups, changing skin needs with increased sun exposure, and a return to more outdoor activity. It's also a good opportunity to review your general health and stay up to date with any recommended preventive care.

Your GP can provide advice and support with:
🌿 Managing seasonal allergies and asthma
☀️ Sun safety and skin health
🏃 Returning to exercise safely
💚 Preventive health checks and chronic disease management
💊 Reviewing your medications if your health needs have changed

If you have any concerns about your health or symptoms that are affecting your daily life, speak with your GP to discuss the most appropriate care for you.

Wishing our community a happy, healthy, and safe spring! 🌸

Celebrating Speech Pathology Week 2026 🗣️

This Speech Pathology Week, we’re celebrating our wonderful Speech Pathologist, Katrina Newby 💙

Katrina brings almost two decades of experience to her work, having worked across public and private practice, rehabilitation and hospital settings. Her extensive clinical experience includes neurology, rehabilitation, intensive care, emergency care, geriatrics, oncology and general medicine.

As an adult speech pathologist, Katrina supports people living with a wide range of neurological and medical conditions, including stroke, dementia, Parkinson’s disease, motor neurone disease, multiple sclerosis, head and neck cancer and other conditions affecting communication, cognition and swallowing.

We’re grateful to have Katrina as part of our healthcare community and to recognise the important role speech pathologists play in helping people communicate, participate and connect.

This year’s Speech Pathology Week theme is “Communication creates possibility” — a wonderful reminder that communication support can help create opportunities to connect, learn, make choices, participate and thrive.

Thank you, Katrina, for the expertise and care you bring to your work. 💙

Today we're recognising Daffodil Day and showing our support for everyone affected by cancer 💛

Daffodil Day is a time to come together, raise awareness, and support the incredible work being done to improve cancer prevention, research, treatment and support services across Australia.

As your local GP practice, we'd also like to take this opportunity to remind our community about the importance of early detection. Participating in recommended cancer screening programs can help find some cancers before symptoms develop, when treatment is often most effective.

Australia has national screening programs for:
💛 Breast cancer (BreastScreen Australia)
💛 Bowel cancer (National Bowel Cancer Screening Program)
💛 Cervical cancer (Cervical Screening Test)

Screening is for people who don't have symptoms, so even if you're feeling well, it's important to attend when you're eligible.

If you notice any unusual or persistent changes to your health, such as a new lump, unexplained weight loss, ongoing pain, changes in bowel or bladder habits, unusual bleeding, or a persistent cough, don't ignore them. While these symptoms often have causes other than cancer, it's important to have them assessed by your GP.

This Daffodil Day, take a moment to check if you're up to date with your screening, encourage your loved ones to do the same, and support those whose lives have been touched by cancer.

Together, we can all play a part in improving outcomes through awareness, early detection and support. 💛
