John has recently started training with me. He’s already been training in the gym for a while but not consistently as he gravitates towards running, swimming and hiking and he’s a local volunteer lifesaver.

He’d really like to deadlift and get stronger overall and his wife is an avid lifter herself so we’re working on strength in deadlift and bench at our sessions and he does leg work, back and accessory movements on his own at the gym.

By coming to me his consistency in the gym has increased and he’s noticing some physique changes and increases in strength too.

You can lift weights at any age. It’s never too late to start something that improves your long term life.

Train as best you can on any given day. That’s all you can ask of yourself in that moment. Leave the rest at the door.

Walk away knowing you challenged yourself whether that is with weight, with pushing your mind or allowing yourself space to see what you are capable of.

Rainy day leg session.
I squatted on Saturday so went for a few other movements.

Kettlebell swings 4 x 12
Hip Thrust 5 x 8
Smith rack lunge 4 x 8
Leg press 5 x 8
Leg extension 5 x 8
Stiff leg dumbbells 4 x 8
Core (TRX) 4 x 10 each side
(calves another time)

Janine came to me to gain strength and lose some weight along the way.

Janine juggles a career and family life and needed some support to get back into training after a lengthy break away from it.

We spent a block of training doing some strength and conditioning at first to build back some fitness and chatted about habits and ways to increase activity.

Janine is pretty practical and we have been able to identify things to adjust in her habits to make a start. We aren’t tackling everything at once but are choosing 3 simple things at a time to focus on. As these become second nature we’ll look at adjusting other things too.

Now we have moved into a strength block where we are progressively overloading each week in either reps or weight and volume.

Janine is doing the work and she is seeing progress 👊🏼

BIRTHDAY BENCH WAS A THING after work today.

The boys used to bench their bodyweight for their age reps at the gym.

I can only bench singles of my bodyweight so I benched my age for my age in reps. I did them in batches of 10 after warm up sets.

The rest of my chest and shoulders session (was tough);
-Chest supported shoulder press
-Incline smith rack bench press
-Landmine press
-Seated chest press
-Dips

Chest cooked.

Normally birthdays pass without much of a mention but I decided that f**k it!… I’ll own turning 50.

I have built this life, the good and the bad and I am ok with all of it. I love my people, I love lifting, music, art, crystals, making food and so much more… and yet I still have more to learn.

This is me. This is my version of 50.
