XR technology is more than just fun and games! 👾 It is an exciting way of how allied health professionals can enhance their delivery of care. By leveraging its interactive, realistic and gamified nature, clinicians can diversify their training programs for their patients, and ensure specific individual goals are still met in a safe and controlled environment. Evidently, users adopting XR in rehabilitation are engaging more, practicing more, and progressing more, ultimately boosting their confidence, mental health and functional abilities. 🍎

📑 In a 2025 systematic review, almost 200 published studies exploring the application of virtual reality (VR) in stroke rehabilitation alone were reviewed. The general consensus was that VR demonstrated to be more promising than conventional therapy approaches, particularly in improving upper limb function, balance and activity performance (1). Similar outcomes were seen in Lo et al. 's 2024 systematic review and meta-analysis; however, this study focused on pain management, and suggested that VR is effective in managing and alleviating chronic musculoskeletal pain.

🚀 Emerging research, along with support from allied-health professionals and users with lived experience, XR technology has proven to be a promising tool for amputee rehabilitation. It offers engaging, high-fidelity and sensory-rich virtual environments with autonomous feedback, optimal for accelerated learning and achieving specific therapeutic goals (1). 🎯

Phantom Limb Pain (PLP) is widely experienced within the amputee community, with research indicating a high prevalence of 64% of PLP among the amputee population (2). While some may experience dull and achy pain, many people report it as a more of a severe, intense and intermittent sensation, rather than it being heavy and constant. The underlying causes of PLP are still unknown, however, some believe it is caused by maladaptive neuroplastic changes, such as disruptions in neighbouring regions of cortical areas corresponding to the amputated limb (3). 🧠

Wow… what an absolute blast! 🤯🚀

OTWorld 2026 chapter is officially in the books, and we are still buzzing from the incredible energy in Leipzig!

👾 From taking the stage to share our vision for digital health and game-based immersive technologies, presenting MyoBot Adventure for the first time, and engaging with everyone at our XR powered booth; OTWorld exceeded all of our expectations. We loved every minute of demonstrating how our XR interventions are transforming the future rehabilitation and training in prosthetics and orthotics. 🦾🦿

A massive thank you to:
- The organisers of OT World for putting together such an amazing event and giving us a platform to show our innovations. In particular, Mandy for working with us to make sure our first OT World was a huge success.

What an incredible week it has been in Leipzig. We were thrilled by the massive response to our showcases, including the Myo-Hand XP, Mobility XP, and MyoBot Adventure, as well as our exclusive mixed reality booth experience. Thank you to everyone who dropped by Booth E01, Hall 3.

The insightful discussions and opportunities sparked by sharing our game-based digital health and immersive technologies for amputee rehabilitation —including pitches by Ricardo and Jing and joint demonstrations with Ottobock and COAPT— have made this event a resounding success.
