Soul Compass

Soul Compass Career & Life Coach, Counsellor. Rebel with a cause. 7300 words. Hilariously, that’s how long my first version of this profile was. Ta da! Truly. I wasn’t.

I set myself a challenge to squash it into a three sentence summary. Aspiring teenage musician has existential crisis after controlling grandmother tells devastating lie which leads to decades of enmeshment, bullying and making bad choices with men. Survives near death experience in childbirth, autoimmune disease & the hiding of authentic self while becoming serial career changer & doing well paid, prestigious roles purely for money & because of lack of sound decision making processes, lack of self awareness & lack of direction. Hits thirty & finally feels deserving of doing something for self, so trains in polarity therapy & counselling then becomes a specialist career and life coach helping people work out what to be when they grow up (all while dabbling in piano, stand-up comedy & quantum theory.) There’s obviously a ton of detail missing but the message is I have lived a life. And learned a lot from every experience. Even the car accident, even the failed marriages, even the workplace bullying. That lived experience makes me an excellent, intuitive, straight shooting coach for anyone who wants to make great choices by understanding what it is that lights you up. We take quite a trip together, a journey inward to discover internal drivers rather than finding external things to direct you. Once we reassess your career and life situation, we work out how to reinvent you & your personal brand to align with your new direction. Then you can re-imagine your whole life … so dream big! Of course, I could just write you a resume. But then you never get to work out the great stuff. Like what or who you’re saying yes to that you would rather not. What or who you’re saying no to that you deeply regret not pursuing. And what the risk is of having all you desire. Coaches are a dime a dozen so it’s important you find the right one. I’m a good fit for anyone prepared to do the work and commit to change & growth—corporates, mothers looking to recreate careers, top execs who want something more meaningful. And I’m a specialist transition coach for personnel leaving the defence force. Are you willing to die with your music still in you? Being smart is one thing. But without the integration of knowledge of your heart, you know nothing. Emotional intelligence is Queen. Faith in life, forgiveness, trust, compassion are all you need to start to return to you. If you want to talk about better processes for choosing your career & life, I’d love to connect.

Quiet quitting had its moment. This is the one worth paying attention to.

The Change Lab surveyed more than a thousand Australian workers and found 55% were quietly cracking. Still turning up, still delivering, and coming apart underneath where nobody can see it.

Two numbers from that study matter more than the headline. Those workers were still performing at around 93% of normal output, which is precisely why nobody notices. And they were 6.2 times more likely to burn out.

Six times the burnout risk at 93% output. Performance holds right up until it does not.

And here is the part that gets treated as a private problem when it is not. Quiet cracking sits squarely in psychosocial hazard territory, and in Australia those hazards carry legal duties for employers. Same category of obligation as a trip hazard in a corridor.

If you are assuming it will blow over, you are not managing a risk. You are waiting for it to become a diagnosis.

A few things I tell every client before a big interview.

You do not need a perfect answer to every question. You need an honest one.

'Tell me about a time you failed' is not a trap. It is a chance to show how you think.

Silence before you answer is not awkward. It is called thinking, and it reads as considered rather than rehearsed.

And the interview is not an interrogation. It is you working out whether you actually want to spend forty hours a week with these people.

That last one changes how the whole conversation feels, and it is the one most women forget when they are busy being grateful to have got an interview at all.

If you have got something big coming up and want to think it through properly first, that is what a Soul Strategy call is for.

You have held this together for years. Has anyone actually said that to you?

Probably not. The work that holds a family, a team or a household together tends to be the work nobody notices until it stops.

This is not about being thanked. It is about you having somewhere to put yourself in the equation too, rather than being the last item on a list that never gets to the end.

FLOW is free, and it starts there.

Every article about AI and work ends the same way. Focus on your human skills. Communication. Adaptability. Emotional intelligence.

Fine. Now what?

Nobody tells you which ones matter, why, or how on earth you demonstrate emotional intelligence on a CV that gets scored by software before a person ever sees it.

So here are six specific ones, and the reason they hold.

Jobs and Skills Australia modelled almost a thousand occupations and found around 79% of the workforce sits in roles with low automation exposure but medium to high potential for augmentation. Augmentation means the work changes rather than disappears. The machine takes the volume and the pattern-matching. We keep the parts that need a person in the room.

Now look at those six and notice how many get stronger with experience rather than weaker.

That is not a coincidence. It is also the exact opposite of the story you are being told about your age.

The old game was matching words. The new game is showing evidence.

And that is a much better game for women with real experience behind them.

For years the advice was to stuff your CV with keywords from the ad and not worry about context. That advice is roughly a decade past its use-by date.

Modern screening looks at context, consistency, evidence of impact and how clearly you write. It is also increasingly trained to recognise transferable and adjacent skills rather than demanding an exact background match.

So the varied career you have quietly apologised for is no longer the liability it once was - provided you describe it as evidence rather than as a list of duties.

'Responsible for reporting' scores nothing. 'Rebuilt monthly reporting and cut turnaround from five days to one' gives the system something to work with.

Burnout does not always look like falling apart.

Sometimes it looks like getting everything done. Meeting every deadline. Answering every email. Nobody at work would have the faintest idea.

That is the version most women in midlife are actually living, and it is the one nobody screens for - because from the outside it looks like coping, and from the inside it just looks like Tuesday.

FLOW is my free ebook on what is actually happening underneath that, and where to start when the usual advice has stopped touching the sides.

Fifteen hours a week caring for your kids. Another fifteen for an ageing parent. What is left over for you?

You did not choose to disappear from your own life. It happened one reasonable request at a time, and each one on its own was perfectly manageable.

FLOW will not give you more hours. Nothing will. But it might help you work out where the breath went, and what to do about the bit you can actually control.

It is free, and it is short.

You had three interviews. Great feedback. A verbal 'we'll be in touch by Friday'. Then nothing. No email. No call back. Not even a rejection.

Getting ghosted after multiple interview rounds is one of the more quietly brutal parts of a job search, and nobody warns you how common it has become.

It is not about you. It is almost always about something that happened inside their process - a hiring freeze, an internal candidate, a restructure nobody told the recruiter about. None of which they will tell you either.

But knowing that does not stop it eroding your confidence, particularly if it happens twice.

If you are in the middle of this and starting to doubt yourself, that is worth a conversation rather than another fortnight of refreshing your inbox.
