Last day of August, and tomorrow kicks off Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. 🎗️ Not exactly our usual space, but most certainly worth talking about.

Prostate cancer's one of the most common cancers affecting Australian men, and awareness months like this exist to get more people talking, checking in, and taking it seriously. 🗣️

There's actually a bit of crossover with what Community Supports like us do too.

Treatment and recovery can sometimes mean needing extra support with everyday things for a while, and that's exactly the kind of thing we help with.

And however that journey looks, the right support can make all the difference.

If you're still weighing up self-managed, plan-managed or NDIA-managed after Wednesday's post, its ok to take a breath. 😮‍💨

Plenty of people agonise over this decision like it's permanent, but it's really not.

📋 Start with plan-managed if you want less admin.

🎯 Try self-managed if you want full control.

🏛️ Go NDIA-managed if you just want it simple.

And if it turns out you picked wrong, that's fine too, you can change it whenever you need to. 🔄

The "right" option isn't a fixed answer, it's just whatever makes your life easier right now. That might look different in six months, and that's okay too. 🌱

If you need help deciding which is right for you, get in touch. We're always here to help. 🤝

Self-managed, plan-managed, NDIA-managed... kind of sounds like alphabet soup... 🤔

Your NDIS plan can be run in three different ways, and yep, you can even mix and match different support categories.

Here's the quick version:

📋 Self-managed, you're in the driver's seat. You choose your providers (registered or not), pay invoices, and keep your own records.

🤝 Plan-managed, a registered plan manager handles the money side for you, paying providers and keeping records, while you still choose who supports you.

🏛️ NDIA-managed, the agency itself handles the payments and record keeping.

And by the way, none of these are locked in forever either. You can ask to change how your plan is managed at any time.

We'll go into a bit more detail on Friday, on picking what actually suits you, but for now... you can get more info on the NDIS website at https://www.ndis.gov.au/participants/using-your-funding/plan-implementation-meeting/guide-your-management-options.

In the final of the series… if you've ever heard “You don't look disabled”… you're not alone.

And it's exactly the kind of thinking behind this myth. 🤔

The NDIS doesn't require you to "look" a certain way to qualify.

Eligibility comes down to how a condition affects your day to day, not whether it's something you can see.

Chronic illness, psychosocial disability, neurodivergence... none of that needs to be visible to be real, or to be eligible for support. 🤝

We touched on this last week with brain injury too. Same idea applies here, not every disability looks a certain way, and that doesn't make it any less real. 👀

Ever had someone judge a book by its cover, so to speak?

As Brain Injury Awareness Week wraps up this Sunday, it felt like a good time to say...

If you know someone living with a brain injury, or you're the one supporting them, having people around who actually understand that everyone's journey looks different makes a huge difference.

Some things you just can't see from the outside.

Well... research shows that brain injury's a bit like that. 🧠

No two are the same, some you'd never pick just by looking at someone, and recovery's different for everyone too... good days, harder days, and that's just all part of it.

This year's theme being many pathways, one community... 🤝 well, that pretty much sums it all up.

So this one's for everyone doing it their own way. 💙

The NDIS is running a survey at the moment for anyone who uses continence products, or supports someone who does.

It's all about helping improve the Continence Provider List... basically a resource that makes it easier to compare pricing and products from registered providers.

Not something we deal in ourselves of course, but hey, if it helps even one person out, it's definitely worth a mention.

If it's relevant to you, or someone you know... your feedback could make a difference to how the list works in the future.

Head over to www.engage.ndis.gov.au/projects/continence-provider-list-survey-2026 and you're there.

Having family around is brilliant, but it doesn't cancel out eligibility.

The NDIS looks at your support needs, not who's living under your roof or how much your family already does for you.

Actually... a lot of families are stretched thin trying to cover everything themselves, and that's exactly the kind of thing NDIS funding can help to ease.

Living with family and having NDIS support aren't an either/or.

They can absolutely work together. 🏡

What does inclusion actually look like, in practice? 🤔

Not the word on a poster, the real everyday version of it.

Is it being asked what you think before a decision gets made for you? Having a say in who supports you? Just being spoken to like your opinion is worth something?

Today's International Youth Day, and it's got us thinking about that.

Not claiming to have it all figured out, but it feels like a good question to sit with, especially for young people navigating disability support, where decisions can sometimes happen around them rather than with them.

Maybe it's less about one big answer, and more about the small moments where someone actually gets asked, and actually gets heard.

What do you reckon inclusion looks like? 💬

10/08/2026

The theme for this year's upcoming International Youth Day is "Different Contexts, Common Aspirations".

We reckon it's a good reminder that young people everywhere want pretty similar things.

Like...
🎯 Real opportunities
🗣️ A voice in decisions that affect them
🌱 A shot at building the life they want
🤝 A community that includes them
🌿 Room to grow at their own pace
👀 To be seen for who they are, not just what they need

For young NDIS participants, that rings especially true.

If it's about building independence or developing new skills or just having the chance to be part of their community on their own terms... all these aspirations don't look any different.

For now, let this be a heads up, Wednesday's post is one you won't want to miss.

See you then. 💙
