Learning Disability Week 2026 will be in full swing from June 15th - 21st, and here at Autism Abilities we aim to illuminate the importance of increasing visibility for neurodivergent individuals.

Working alongside educators and employers, our therapists and PBS practitioners create strategies by assessing individual needs, designing personalized interventions, and offering ongoing support to foster growth and inclusion. You can take comfort in knowing that our team would see and accept each participant for who they really are.

Today, we honour the remarkable legacy of Eddie Koiki Mabo, a Torres Strait Islander man from Mer Island whose courage, determination, and unwavering pursuit of justice changed the course of Australian history.

It is a day to pause, reflect, learn, and acknowledge the importance of truth, respect, and understanding.

By listening to one another and valuing different experiences and perspectives, we can help build stronger, more inclusive communities for future generations.

🌻Today, on Global Accessibility Awareness Day, we recognise the importance of creating a world where everyone can access, participate and thrive, regardless of ability.

At Autism Abilities, our Occupational Therapy team is passionate about supporting individuals to build independence, confidence and meaningful participation in everyday life. From sensory supports and emotional regulation strategies to improving daily living skills and creating accessible environments, we work alongside individuals and families to help remove barriers and promote inclusion.

Accessibility is more than physical access, it’s about ensuring every person feels supported, empowered and valued in their community. 💙

🌻We're wrapping up the month by highlighting our OT Vania and Senior OT Yuho, who coincidentally share the same birthday in April! Our allied health team works incredibly hard, its great to see them taking a moment to celebrate their day. We are so happy to have celebrated two birthdays AND two incredible therapists. Happy April everyone! 🎂

We're nearing the end of April! We’re incredibly proud of the direct support we provide to our participants at Autism Abilities, but it's equally important to acknowledge the work that goes on behind-the-scenes.

🌻We're more than halfway through April now, and today we wanted to highlight our amazing Occupational Therapist, Angbeen, who bridges the physical distance between herself and the participant with a can-do attitude and sheer determination! 🌟

Here are some reasons why telehealth appointments may be right for you:

• No travel is required, which reduces travel costs, stress, burden, and time.
• It often allows other caregivers, family members, or external health professionals to join the session, which can help facilitate a multidisciplinary approach.
• It helps reflect the home environment and apply it effectively within the session, as the client receives the session at home.
• You can wear your sweatpants and nobody would know!

Whether you live a great distance away or have a busy schedule that doesn't allow for it, telehealth breaks down barriers, making therapy accessible and convenient for everyone.
