Do you take regular iron supplements or struggle with low Iron?
Some handy tip to know about iron are that different foods and drinks can either help iron absorption or block iron absorption.
To help with iron absorption you should try to include the following foods at the same meal as iron-rich foods:
- Vitamin C - orange, lemon, pineapple, tomato and capsicum
- Carotenoids - your organ-coloured fruit and veg such as carrots, pumpkin, grapefruit and apricots
- Fermented foods such as kimchi, sauerkraut and miso
Next you want to avoid these foods at drinks at the same meal as iron-rich foods:
- Tannins - found in tea and coffee
- Phytates - found in wholegrains, legumes, nuts and seeds.
- Dairy - milk, cheese and yoghurt
