Average wait times from initial contact with my aged care and commencement of supports.
What would be more interesting is if they released the CHSP wait times!

Follow me on tik tok to keep learning all things aged care, disability support, providers and support workers.

Did you know the new Aged Care Act wait time report found the median time for older Australians to access aged care services is now around 10 months?

For ongoing Support at Home services, the median wait was reported as almost 12 months.

By the time many people receive support, families are often exhausted and care needs have significantly increased.

Sally and I recently attended the INVOX Support at Home National Conference 2026 online with sincere gratitude to Community Industry Group - Illawarra Forum for hosting.

One thing became very clear throughout the discussions. Many providers, participants and families are currently feeling frustrated, confused and overwhelmed by the ongoing changes.

Some of the biggest themes discussed included:
- affordability of care
- increased administration and compliance
- assessment challenges
- workforce pressures
- and the need for clearer communication and transparency across the sector.

As providers, it's important that we continue learning, adapting and advocating so we can better support the people in our community.

Last week I had the privilege of attending the Illawarra women in business awards to celebrate our Client Care Manager Sally’s nomination for Executive Employee of the year.

Although she didn’t leave with the award, she is a winner in our eyes. Sally was our first ever employee who had just completed her certificate in individual support ‘ageing’ and has progressed in her career over the last 15 years to now a Client Care Manager.

We are so lucky to have Sally’s determination, knowledge and passion for the industry. The last 6 months have been challenging to say the least, yet Sally has gone above and beyond to learn all she can about the new reforms to ensure as much of a smooth transition for our clients as possible.

Well done Sally & thank you for all that you have done and continue to do 🩵

The decision to scrap the plan to charge older Australians $50/hour for showers was made after months of sustained criticism, including warnings that people were forgoing other care to afford the service.

If you’ve ever felt confused, overwhelmed, or unsure about aged care or disability services—you’re not alone.

I’ve worked in this space long enough to see how constant changes have made an already complex system even harder for families to navigate.

That’s why I’ve created this page.

My goal is simple:
To share real, honest insights about aged care and disability supports —so families can make informed decisions, know what to look out for, and feel more confident navigating the system.

I’ll be talking about:
• What good care should actually look like
• Red flags to watch for
• How to advocate for your loved ones
• The realities of working in the sector

This isn’t about negativity—it’s about transparency, education, and doing better.

If this is something that matters to you, I’m glad you’re here 🤍
