A big thank you to Denby Sheather for inviting me onto her Wildfire podcast. 🤍🔥

We spoke about the intersection of perimenopause, ADHD, the nervous system and Traditional Chinese Medicine, and why this stage of life can bring so much to the surface for so many women.

I also shared some of my own experience. After my sudden hormone collapse following Primary Ovarian Insufficiency, my world turned upside down. What initially felt like everything falling apart became the catalyst for the unmasking of my neurodivergence and an ongoing journey of peeling back the layers of who I thought I had to be.

Every woman’s path through this transition is unique. I see it as an initiation into a new season of life. Our experiences, our challenges and the support we need will all look different.

Perimenopause isn’t just a hormonal transition. It can also be a profound inner transition. From a Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective, this is a time of metamorphosis. A woman’s Second Spring. A time to honour the wisdom we’ve gathered, integrate all that we’ve lived through, and step into the next expression of ourselves.

There’s so much more we could have explored, and I have a feeling this conversation is only the beginning.

If this resonates with you, I’d love for you to have a listen.

I’d also love to know… would you like me to speak more about the intersection of perimenopause, neurodivergence, the nervous system and Traditional Chinese Medicine?

Drop your thoughts or questions in the comments below. I’d love to hear from you. 🤍

Throwback to my clinical internship at Nanjing Municipal Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine in China.

I was there for around 10 weeks, rotating through different departments and observing experienced practitioners in their daily clinics. I spent a lot of time in dermatology, which was intense in the best way, and also in acupuncture and moxibustion clinics, including seeing treatments for things like Bell’s palsy.

At the time, I was pretty shell shocked by the whole experience. It was my first time overseas, and everything felt fast, unfamiliar, and completely different to anything I had known before. I can still remember just trying to take it all in day by day.

One of the biggest differences was how efficient the hospital system was. Blood tests were done and results were back within minutes. Patients would move straight through imaging or specialist consults if needed, then come back to their practitioner with everything ready. It all ran very smoothly.

I also really appreciated how Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western medicine were used together in practice. Some patients were treated with Chinese herbal medicine on its own, and others received a combination of herbs, acupuncture, and conventional medications like antibiotics or corticosteroids depending on what they needed.

I’ve always felt that bridging Eastern and Western approaches is where healthcare moves forward, rather than keeping them separate.

This memory popped up today, and I had to smile. It honestly feels like another lifetime.

Nearly ten years ago, I graduated with a Bachelor of Health Science and a Master’s in Traditional Chinese Medicine.

What many people probably don’t know is that I was already in practice when I made the decision to go back to university. I wanted to deepen my knowledge, strengthen my clinical skills, and build an even stronger foundation for the work I loved.

Looking back now, I’m so grateful I made that decision.

Over the past 20 years, I’ve realised that learning never really ends. University gave me an incredible foundation, but so have the people who’ve trusted me with their health. Every person I’ve worked with has taught me something, and I’m still learning every single day.

This photo is a lovely reminder of one chapter in the journey. I’m grateful for where it began, grateful for where it’s taken me, and excited for what’s still to come. 🤍

Winter medicine in a bowl.

Brodu — chicken, vegetables, garlic, parsley and rice, slowly simmered into a simple, nourishing broth.

Rooted in my Maltese heritage, and made with care for my dad as well.
I think of my nunna every time I make it — it nourishes my heart as much as my body.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, warm broths like this support the Spleen and Stomach, aid digestion, and nourish the body through colder months.
