We have successfully finished Day 2 of our 2nd Cadaveric Workshop and fluoroscopy-guided Pain Intervention Workshop.

We believe that our enthusiastic participants will reflect the skills gained from the exceptional expertise of our national and international faculty — Professor Akm Akhtaruzzaman Sir, Associate Professor Dr. Tolga Ergönenç, Professor Paul Kessler, and Professor Maurizio Merchesini — towards providing the best patient care.

The Division of Regional Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine within the Department of Anaesthesia, Analgesia, and Intensive Care Medicine hosted the two-day 2nd Cadaveric Workshop on Regional Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine.

Day 1 - 13th July 2026
The first day featured two hands on sessions on Ultrasound-guided Regional Anaesthesia and Pain Intervention using cadavers, held at the Anatomy Plastination Lab. These sessions were led by international experts Associate Professor Dr Tolga Ergönenç from Turkey and Professor Paul Kessler from Germany.

There was a fluoroscopy-guided Pain Intervention demonstration conducted by our Division Head, Professor Akm Akhtaruzzaman Sir.

A clinical session focusing on the new ESRA DPM Part 2 Exam format—ACEP (Assessment of Clinical Expertise in Pain)—was also conducted. This session was facilitated by international faculty Professor Maurizio Merchesini from Italy and our Division Head, Professor AKM Akhtaruzzaman Sir.

A total of 27 participants from various institutions attended the workshop.

ESRA DPM exam system has changed and new ACEP (Assessment of Clinical Expertise in Pain) adopted and will be implemented from the September 2026 part II examination in Pain. Diploma.
Division of Regional Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine, Department of Anaesthesia, Analgesia and Intensive Care Medicine, BMU has taken initiative to organise 2nd Cadaveric Workshop on pain procedures on phantom and regional anaesthesia on cadaver and also carefully trained simulated patient examination.
All ESRA DPM part II candidates are requested to join the programme.

Today is a Proud Day for the Division of Regional Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine of the Department of Anaesthesia, Analgesia and Intensive Care Medicine at Bangladesh Medical University.

Our second cohort of the Fellowship of Advanced Pain Medicine has completed their one-year training programme concluding with a thesis defence and clinical components including Long Case, Short Case, POCUS and Viva Exam.

Our Fellows demonstrated a compassionate and committed spirit throughout their journey in the Advanced Pain Medicine Fellowship.🧑‍⚕️👩‍⚕️🧑‍⚕️👨‍⚕️

We extend our sincere gratitude to our respected Chairman of the Department of Anaesthesia, Analgesia and Intensive Care Medicine Professor Md Mustafa Kamal Sir and our Division Head Professor Akm Akhtaruzzaman Sir,for their continued leadership, guidance, and unwavering support. The Essential Pain Management Course (EPM) for New Instructors participated from various institutions was organized by the Bangladesh Society for Study of Pain - BSSP at BMU, in collaboration with Interplast, Australia.

The lectures were given by our division Head, Professor Akm Akhtaruzzaman Sir, along with two international faculty members, Dr. Moira Rush and Dr. Tania Morris, both of whom are affiliated with Interplast.
