A clean environment is essential for human health and the well-being of all living things. Properly disposing of waste and reducing pollution can:

• Protect health by limiting the spread of disease and reducing exposure to polluted air and water.
• Safeguard wildlife and ecosystems by preventing animals from being harmed by litter and toxic waste.
• Keep water and soil safe for drinking, farming, and growing food.
• Improve quality of life by making neighborhoods more pleasant and comfortable.
• Conserve resources when we reuse, recycle, and avoid unnecessary waste.

Everyone can help by putting rubbish in bins, recycling, using less plastic, and caring for shared spaces.

A presentation by Mrs. Yang Zangmo and Dr. Tashi Samphel on Dengue and its prevention.

Dengue is a viral infection spread to people through the bites of infected mosquitoes, mainly Aedes mosquitoes. It can cause fever, headache, body and joint aches, nausea, or a rash. Most people recover, but dengue can sometimes become severe. Seek urgent medical care for severe abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, bleeding, unusual tiredness, or trouble breathing.

Dengue prevention mainly focuses on (avoiding mosquito bites and stopping mosquitoes from breeding).

Remove standing water: Empty, scrub, cover, or throw away containers that collect water, such as buckets, flowerpots, tires, bottles, and water tanks. Do this regularly because dengue mosquitoes breed in stagnant water.

Prevent mosquito bites:
Use mosquito repellent, wear long sleeves and long pants, and use window/door screens or mosquito nets when appropriate.

Keep the surroundings clean:
Dispose of rubbish properly and prevent water from collecting around the home, including in gutters and drains.

Protect people with dengue from mosquito bites:
During the first week of illness, mosquitoes can pick up the virus from an infected person and spread it to others.

Community prevention matters:
Regular mosquito-control activities and eliminating breeding sites throughout neighborhoods can reduce transmission.
