Honoring a Visionary: President Festus Gontebanye Mogae 🕊️

Today, BOFWA joins the nation in celebrating the extraordinary legacy of Botswana’s 3rd President. At a time when our nation was "threatened with extinction" by the HIV/AIDS pandemic, President Mogae didn’t just lead; he fought for our survival. From pioneering free ARV therapy to breaking the silence on stigma by being the first head of state to publicly test for HIV, his bold leadership laid the foundation for the SRH services we provide today. We stand on the shoulders of this giant as we continue the journey toward an HIV-free generation. Thank you, Rre Rra Nametso, for giving us a future to protect. 🇧🇼❤️

Repealing anti-LGBTQI laws in Botswana would improve access to healthcare, reduce stigma, strengthen HIV prevention, and support better mental and physical health for LGBTQI people, creating a healthier, more inclusive society for all. ❤️

UNAIDS applauds Botswana on fully repealing anti-LGBTQ+ law

More than six years after Botswana’s courts struck down a ban on same-sex intimacy, the government has now formally removed the discriminatory provisions from the law.
