The IAFF has been working with a Member of Parliament from British Columbia to advance important legislative priorities that directly affect Canadian firefighters, our families, and the communities we protect.

We need your help to build support for these initiatives.

There are three important issues we are asking you to take action on:

Index and increase the Memorial Grant to $375,000 — ensuring that the families of firefighters who make the ultimate sacrifice receive the support they deserve.

Protect firefighters and our communities from the dangers of lithium-ion batteries — addressing the growing fire and safety risks associated with these batteries.

Increase the standard for airport firefighting — ensuring Canadian airport firefighters have the training, resources, and standards necessary to protect passengers, crews, and communities.

We are saddened today to learn about the loss of one of our first responder family members.

We stand beside our partners at the Barrie Police Service in mourning the death of Sgt. Brett Carleton. Sgt. Carleton was a highly respected police officer with the City of Barrie. May he rest in peace.

It is with heavy hearts that we share the loss of one of our own. The Barrie Police Service is mourning the death of Sgt. Brett Carleton.
Sgt. Carleton was a highly respected police officer whose commitment to his work touched many families during some of the hardest moments of their lives.
He will forever be remembered as a valued member of the Service.
We offer his family our support, our love, and our deepest understanding for their need for privacy during this incredibly difficult time.
