I am an EMR that has worked on and off as a medic for the past 10 years as well as a practicing nursing at a rural hospital. I take extreme pride in the fact that I have founded a safety company based on experience and also the knowledge of the needs for all aspects of medical care in an industrial and possibly remote setting. I take my background in oilfield safety and acute nursing competence to ensure a well experienced, educated and prepared crew.

Today Jaime Demick and myself were able to go up and get a real feel of what we are up against up here. It was great to see the terrain and see our crews below us on the ground. We attend nightly logistics meetings so it’s nice to be able to visualize what’s happening and tie it into what we hear in the meetings. We flew over our Oregon team and now have a good feel for response times based off of what we look at on the map. We flew with the fire behaviour specialist and therefore we were on a mapping excursion. That meant one lap around 1 of the 4 fires and it took almost exactly 2 hours. What an opportunity!

Safety briefings on both medi-vac units are completed. We have great plans in place with our safety officer as well as our team leaders and pilots. We unloaded and secured our gear into the aircraft and we are now ready to roll. Flights tonight to visualize the fires and terrain. We both are so grateful for the opportunity the government of Alberta has given us to be here working with this wonderful team!
