A concussion does not require a loss of consciousness. That's one of the most dangerous myths in workplace safety.
An employee takes a knock, says they feel fine, and goes back to work. Hours later, symptoms set in — headache, confusion, light sensitivity, nausea. By then, they've been pushing through an injury that needed rest.
Signs to watch for after a head impact:
Headache or pressure in the skull
Confusion or slowed thinking
Balance problems
Sensitivity to light or noise
Memory gaps around the event
If any of these appear, the person should stop work, be monitored, and be cleared by a medical professional before returning.
We include concussion recognition in our workplace first aid training — because what you do in the first hour matters.
