Hello from Inuvik, Northwest Territories!

Thank you to the multiple members of Inuvik 's healthcare community, including massage therapist Natasha, who arranged to have me do a clinical outreach in town for a few days. Catching a quick Air North, flight from Dawson City to Inuvik is an easy way to provide musculoskeletal healthcare to this community that doesn't currently have a Chiropractor.

Chiropractors are an effective solution to rural musculoskeletal healthcare due to the high level of clinical training and low amount of tools and resources needed for Chiropractors to provide effective diagnosis and treatment for musculoskeletal health conditions.

I bought myself an electroacupuncture device, and I like it a lot 😄 Adding electricity through acupuncture needles is really helpful for arthritis, shoulder, chronic low back, and sciatica troubles 🦴 It can also be used for intramuscular stimulation (IMS) or for pain relief like a TENS machine ⚡️

Join Mr. Adam Terpstra (social worker, psychotherapist) and myself as we review and introduce:
-Why our mood decreases in the winter
-Behavioral, social, and psychological strategies to increase mood (eg. self-care, sleep hygiene, cultivating safety and belonging, etc.)

✨Free Assessment Week July 14-18th with myself. Details below 👇. Consider sharing this with those who may need it.

Finances can be a barrier to accessing care for body pains and can lead to prolonged or unnecessary suffering. I would like to decrease this barrier by offering some services free of charge next week. Here is how:

👉 For new and returning patients who want to have a body issue assessed, and for whom finances are a barrier to seeking help. (Yukoners only).
👉 An intake or extended follow-up appointment will be provided “pro bono” (I will waive the usual $150 fee).
👉 We'll follow the usual chiropractic assessment process. I will collect your clinical history, perform a physical examination, provide a diagnosis, and provide recommendations. This usually includes manual therapies treatment and some home exercise prescription during the same appointment.
👉 If subsequent appointments are required for a treatment plan, these will follow my usual fee schedule.

Please call Yukon Spa at 867-993-3332 or contact myself to book this appointment for next week. We all may need to be a bit flexible with appointment times during the day depending on demand.

✨While not required, you may consider making a small donation to my ongoing charitable donation box, which will be distributed later this year (you won't receive a chiropractic receipt or charities donation receipt for donations).

Super excited to show this to my Dawson City peeps 😁

Great news for everyone who has been enjoying Giancarlo Carpino's amazing programs! Dr. Carpino will be instructing a new 'Developmental Movement & Flow' program designed to improve posture through movement, increase sports performance, and reduce injuries. Sessions are scheduled for May 13, 20, and 27 @ Minto Park from 7:30 - 8:30 pm, and participants are asked to bring indoor shoes. There is no cost to attend, but registration is required due to limited space. (Although the program is free, donations are always appreciated😊) Big thanks to Giancarlo for helping Dawson stay healthy and fit!

I’m excited to announce that I’ll be participating in a doctors-without-borders type project this autumn. I’ll be volunteering abroad in Mwanza, Tanzania, until near the end of 2024.

“As countries in East Africa have continuously improved their medical expertise to treat infectious diseases, the burden of health care has been shifting from infectious diseases to musculoskeletal disorders. However, the health care system is still adapting to the rapid increase in musculoskeletal disorders. Therefore, Global Peace Network (the organization I’m volunteering with), through its Pos+Abilities program, is working with Tanzanian clinicians to enhance their knowledge and skills in physical rehabilitation. Furthermore, in low-resource environments such as rural Tanzania, chiropractors, with their hands-on approach, are ideally suited to model effective care.”

I’ll be heading out near the end of September and am looking forward to helping out where I can 😊
