Even my client with dementia knows she’s getting the 5-star treatment! 😂⭐️

A little moment from today’s appointment that absolutely made my day. ❤️

Her family member said, “Ooh, you’re getting the five-star treatment today!” And without missing a beat, my client replied, “Oh, she always does the five-star treatment!” 😂

These little moments are such a reminder of why I love what I do. Sometimes it’s not just about the treatment — it’s about the connection, the laughter, and making someone feel cared for. 🥰🦶✨

The most relaxing part of a foot treatment is the one part I refuse to do, and my clients are always surprised when I say it.

Do not scroll past this if you are diabetic or you have ever been told you have a fungal nail.

This is the piece of misinformation I see marketed as care more than any other.

I am a Licensed Practical Nurse who specialises in high risk foot care.

It is the soak.

And I know, it feels good, and it has been part of the picture of foot care for as long as any of us can remember. But warm water sitting on skin for a stretch of time is a warm, moist, enclosed environment. If a fungal nail condition is present, that is precisely the environment the organism wants. You are not washing it away. You are hosting it. And prolonged soaking softens and breaks down skin, which matters enormously on a foot that may already have reduced sensation and reduced circulation.

I have built a practice on the least invasive method that achieves the clinical goal, and that means I do not do things because they photograph well.

Just because something has always been done a certain way does not make it the right way.

The most dangerous provider is the one who always has an answer.

Read this before you book anybody, including me, because it will change what you listen for.

I am a Licensed Practical Nurse. I do not diagnose. I assess, I treat within my scope, I document, and when something needs a physician or a podiatrist, I refer and I follow up until it has been seen.

I know that clients sometimes want more from me than that. They point at something and they want a name for it, and I understand the impulse completely, because an unnamed thing is frightening.

Here is what I can give them instead. What I am observing. Whether it has changed since last time, because I have the record. Whether it needs another set of eyes, and how quickly, and I will make sure it gets them.

So watch for it in any provider. Watch for someone who tells you plainly what they cannot do. That is the sound of a practitioner who knows exactly what they can.

I would rather be the nurse who knows exactly where her expertise ends, because that is the only reason you can trust everything inside it.

If you leave your foot appointments feeling like a burden, that is not sensitivity. That is information about the care you are receiving.

This is the shortest one I will write, and the one I want you to finish read.

I am a Licensed Practical Nurse who does footcare, and I run a full assessment and documentation on every appointment.

People apologize for the state of their feet the way you would apologize for a messy kitchen when someone drops by unnoticed. As though they let me down. As though their feet were a failure of character rather than a body they have been living in their whole life. Nobody arrives at that on their own. That gets taught. It gets taught by being rushed, by someone sighing, by years of being handled as a task rather than a person.

Nobody has ever had to apologize to me for their feet. There is nothing there I have not seen, and there is nothing there that makes you less of a person.

Shame is not a normal byproduct of clinical care. Feet, and dignity, in the same hour. That is the whole job.

Every tool i use is sterilized in a nine thousand dollar Health Canada approved autoclave, the same category of sterilization you would find in a hospital.

Here is why:
The people I treat have compromised immune systems and skin that does not heal quickly, and some of them have open areas i am working around. If something is going to touch that skin, it has to be sterile. Not clean. Not wiped. Sterile. Those are different words and they mean different things. Clean removes what you see. Sterile eliminates what you cannot.

This is the machine. Instruments come out sealed and stay sealed until I open them in front of you.

Nobody is going to reward me for this. It does not show up in a before and after photograph. I bought it because the standard requires it.

The reason most seniors do not get proper foot care is that nobody ever told them it was covered.

This is the post I would want my own parents to read if they were still alive.

I am a Licensed Practical Nurse who does foot care, and i direct bill BlueCross and Greenshield.

Here is how it works. I submit the claim on your behalf to your insurer and a portion paid out of pocket. Whatever is paid out of pocket is tax deductible as this is a medical service.

I have come across many seniors in Calgary who qualify for footcare with Seniors BlueCross and have never used it.

So ask. Does my plan include foot care, or in-home nursing? Is an LPN a recognized provider? Does my provider direct bill? Ask them of any provider you are considering, not just me.

Comment COVERED and I will send you the link to book a consultation.
