🏪 A physical business can be damaged overnight. A digital business doesn’t have a shopfront to smash.

Seeing incidents of vandalism like this across the GTA is a reminder that traditional businesses carry risks we don’t always think about — property damage, repairs, security, rent and unexpected disruption.

💻 It’s one of the reasons we chose to build online.

No storefront.
No physical inventory sitting in a shop.
No premises that can be vandalized.
📱 Just a business we can operate from wherever we are.

Of course, every business has risks — online business isn’t risk-free.

🎓 I took a taxi to my PhD viva. I walked home carrying six years of my life in my head.

13 years ago today — 26 August 2013 — I passed my PhD viva.

I submitted my thesis on 8 May. The next 3.5 months were a juggling act: viva preparation, security work to pay the bills, and job applications.

🏊‍♂️ Yet the day before the viva, I stopped revising and swam for two hours.
My mind needed space more than it needed another chapter.

The next morning, I wore my favourite suit and tie (the only one I had for special occasions) and booked a taxi to university. 🚕

I couldn't really afford it.
But I told myself: This is my day.

⏰ At 11am, the viva began.
For almost 2.5 hours, the questions kept coming.

Question. Answer. Challenge. Defend. Explain.
Eventually, I almost became numb.
I just kept answering.

Then I was sent outside.

Thirty minutes later, I was called back in. And the only thing I remember hearing was:

“You have passed.”

There was a long list of recommended changes though, but who cares, since those three words were everything.

Then came the part I will never forget.
🚶‍♂️ The walk back home.

And with every step, my mind travelled through the six years in Glasgow that had brought me to that moment.

The late nights.
The sacrifices.
The uncertainty.
The pages written and rewritten.

It all came back, step by step.

For six years, I had been chasing that moment.
Now I was walking home having finally reached it. ❤️

My wife was waiting at home. I shared the news with her and then I called my family.

I still remember the happiness and pride in my father's voice when I told him:
I passed.

13 years later, I've learned that some achievements are bigger than the certificate on the wall.
They carry the years, sacrifices and people behind them.

🚕 I took a taxi there as a PhD candidate.
🚶‍♂️ I walked home knowing six years of hard work had finally brought me to that moment.

And that walk…
I still carry it with me today. 🎓❤️
