You came in because your BACK hurts… so why am I working on your CHEST?
Welcome to Day 3 of Why Are You Working THERE?
Pectoralis major and pectoralis minor are strong muscles at the front of the body, and with how much time we spend reaching forward — driving, typing, cooking, cleaning, working, scrolling — they can become part of the tension pattern through the shoulders and upper back.
That doesn’t mean we ignore the area that hurts.
It means we look at the bigger picture.
And because the chest is considered a sensitive area in massage therapy, your consent matters. You always have a say in what is treated and how.
Try this today: gently open your chest using a doorway or wall stretch and notice what changes through your shoulders and back.
Sometimes the body part asking for attention isn’t the only body part involved.
You don’t have to wait until your body is screaming to start caring for it.
