Oh Deer! This week we’ve been installing a proper deer fence. This one is 8.5 feet tall and almost 1000 feet long. Last year what we didn’t lose to the drought we lost to the deer, meaning our year was pretty horrible. Hopefully this works!

Somehow even though it hasn’t rained here in two and a half months we still have abundance on the farmstead. It’s been a lot of extra work watering (with buckets and drip tape - not a sprinkler). The corn and sunflowers don’t get watered so they likely put down some seriously deep roots ( I’ll have fun tearing them out this fall ). We really need rain though.

The beginnings of a section my lavender rows. I don’t know if anyone loves lavender more than I do! I’ve been increasing the plantings of drought tolerant plants and perennials over the past few years. It’s our 16th summer here and I’ve noticed summers get hotter and drier.
