MARCH 5

A LIFELONG TASK

“But how, in difficult circumstances, does a person learn to take things one step at a time?”

I was never known for my patience. How many times have I asked myself, “Why should I wait when I want everything right now?” When I first began working on myself and my growth, I felt like a kid in a candy store. I wanted to reach the end as quickly as possible. I thought real change would only take a few months.

Now I understand that personal growth and healing are lifelong journeys. It isn’t something that happens all at once or in a short period of time. It unfolds gradually, through patience, learning, and consistent effort.

No voice equals no choice. No choice equals no power. From now on I choose to be heard.

Without a voice we do not have choice or power. Children are often the members of society who have the least voice. Many of us grew up hearing that “children should be seen and not heard,” or something similar. In difficult homes we may have learned that we had no say in what happened around us. The impact of that can stay with us for a long time.

Unless we consciously face those experiences, the patterns of the past can repeat themselves in the present and future. It is possible to go through life moving forward quietly, passively, and without questioning the same messages we learned when we were young.

But who says we must remain without a voice today? Do we still need to give the people or experiences from our past that much power in our lives?

No matter how timid, uncertain, or afraid we may feel, we can practice saying:
“I am here. I matter. This is what I think.”
It is healthy and empowering to stand up and speak out. Everyone deserves to be heard.

Today I am grateful for the strength to find my voice after being silent for so long.

FEBRUARY 25

THE CHALLENGE OF FAILURE

Nothing in life is truly wasted. Through failure, we often learn humility — a lesson that can be painful, yet deeply necessary.

How grateful I am today to understand that my past failures were part of shaping who I am now. Through pain came experience, and through experience came growth. In moments of struggle, I learned resilience. In moments of reflection, I gained insight.

Through learning and perseverance, growth began — followed by gratitude. And from that gratitude came peace of mind — living with clarity, strength, and purpose.

A loving invitation is far more powerful than pressure or persuasion. When we welcome someone into a new space, conversation, or experience, it is important to assure them that growth is possible and that change can happen. Encouragement plants hope.

We must never suggest that healing, growth, or transformation is effortless. The struggles people carry may have been with them for years. They may conceal grief, mistakes, loss, or pain that once felt too overwhelming to face. Facing these things can be necessary for growth, but harshness or insensitivity can cause someone to retreat.

A simple, heartfelt “We’re glad you’re here” can be a powerful message of belonging and hope.

Today, I will remember how it feels to look, for the first time, at the long path winding over the mountain.

GROWING THROUGH DISCOMFORT

Sometimes things have to get worse before they get better.

We naturally resist pain. No one enjoys discomfort, uncertainty, or emotional strain. Yet growth often asks something from us first. It asks us to face what we have avoided. It asks us to let go of what no longer works. It asks us to change patterns that once felt safe.

Real change can feel unsettling. When we challenge old habits, shift long-standing dynamics, or step into unfamiliar territory, tension may rise before clarity comes. Conflict may surface before resolution appears. Discomfort may intensify before healing begins.

It can be tempting to retreat, to go back to what is familiar, even if it is not healthy. But sometimes the only way out is through.

There is strength in staying present during the difficult moments. There is wisdom in responding thoughtfully instead of reacting automatically. And there is freedom waiting on the other side of courage.

Today, may I have the courage to persist. If discomfort must come, may I face it with steadiness, learn from it, and move forward with trust that growth is unfolding.

A THANKFUL HEART

I try to hold fast to the truth that a full and thankful heart cannot entertain great conceits. When brimming with gratitude, one’s heartbeat must surely result in outgoing love, the finest emotion that we can ever know.

Gratitude is the basic ingredient of humility. Humility is the foundation of unity. And unity reminds us to place principles before personalities.

Each morning, I begin by giving thanks for three simple things: I am alive. I have another chance today. I am capable of growth.

From there, I try to live with an attitude of gratitude and fully embrace the next twenty-four hours. Gratitude is not something I practice once in a while. It is something I live.
