Healing is not just about stopping substance use, it’s about restoring balance in every part of a person’s life.
At Aakwa’ode’ewin Consulting, we believe in a Biopsychosocial Model for Recovery because Indigenous wellness has always been holistic. Our people heal through connection to body, mind, spirit, family, culture, and community.
This model recognizes that recovery is influenced by:
🪶 Biological factors: physical health, addiction, sleep, nutrition, and brain wellness
🪶 Psychological factors: trauma, grief, emotions, mental health, and coping skills
🪶 Social factors: family, housing, relationships, community supports, culture, and belonging
For Indigenous individuals, this approach honours the reality that many struggles are connected to intergenerational trauma, systemic barriers, disconnection from culture, and loss of identity.
Recovery cannot happen in isolation.
When we support the whole person:
🪶 Individuals gain confidence, purpose, and healthier coping strategies
🪶 Families begin rebuilding trust, communication, and connection
🪶 Communities strengthen through healing, empowerment, and collective wellness
A culturally grounded biopsychosocial approach allows us to move beyond simply treating symptoms, and instead walk beside people as they reclaim their identity, strengths, and spirit.
Recovery is community healing.
Recovery is relationship.
Recovery is returning home to ourselves.
