Doing things right is not cheap, but at the end of the day worth it 🤩 This is a great example of the costs associated with providing Nursing Foot Care.
Nursing Foot Care is a medical service, requiring medical grade instruments and sterilization- medical reprocessing of critical devices; foot care tools.

👣 Nursing Foot Care is Limb Preservation — Not a Pedicure

One of the biggest misconceptions I hear is: “Isn’t foot care nursing just a pedicure?”

The answer is no — and the difference matters.

Professional nursing foot care is about health, mobility, pain reduction, infection prevention, and limb preservation.

As a Foot Care Nurse, I assess and care for feet affected by conditions such as:

🩺 Diabetes
🩺 Poor circulation / vascular disease
🩺 Thickened or fungal nails
🩺 Ingrown toenails
🩺 Corns and calluses causing pain or pressure
🩺 Reduced mobility or inability to safely care for your own feet
🩺 Neuropathy (loss of sensation)
🩺 High-risk feet that could lead to wounds, infection, or ulceration

For many people — especially seniors, people living with diabetes, or those with circulation concerns — proper foot care can literally help prevent wounds, infections, falls, hospitalization, and even amputation.

A pedicure focuses primarily on cosmetic appearance and relaxation.

Nursing foot care focuses on safety, assessment, prevention, and preserving your ability to walk comfortably and stay independent.

Healthy feet are not a luxury — they are part of your overall health.

Your feet carry you through life. Taking care of them is healthcare. 💙

While I was initially going to keep things quiet, since the other nurses have shared.. I have some exciting news! 🤩

I am honoured (humbled) and excited to announce that at the 2026 CAFCN conference I was invited to serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the new certification process developed through the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) and Canadian Association of Foot Care Nurses (CAFCN)!!

While I am not yet in this role, I will be part of an anonymous team reviewing nurses’ portfolios as part of the certification pathway, helping to uphold the highest standards of practice in our profession. I am looking forward to going through the certification process and SME training program soon. 🤓👣

I'm not sure where the last week went, but it flew by! 😅 ✈Last Thursday through Sunday I attended the annual Canadian Association of Foot Care Nurses (CAFCN) conference in Toronto! 👣

These events leave me feeling energized by all the knowledge and ideas shared amongst professionals (while also leaving me tired!🥱). It's been busy since getting home with catching up and patient care.

So many exciting things happened, and I can't wait to share as able. Looking forward to sharing more photos and takeaways soon — and gearing up for certification with the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) later this year! 🤩👣

Always fun connecting again 🥹🩷 opposite sides of Canada is too far!

✨💖 BESTIE ALERT 💖✨

Okay, technically Kirsten isn’t my ONLY conference bestie 😂👣

But THIS girl right here? Me and Kirsten always manage to pick up exactly where we left off.

With me on the west coast and her on the east coast, our friendship bridges this beautiful country 🇨🇦

And honestly, I think that says something really special about nursing foot care. We all come from different provinces, different clinics, different life experiences… but there’s this understanding and connection that happens when foot care nurses get together. We speak the same language. Pressure points, burrs, business struggles, weird feet, conference gossip, life stress, laughter… all of it 😂👣

Sometimes we only see each other once a year at the CAFCN conference, which somehow makes these reunions even more meaningful. It’s like no time passes at all.

So yes… enjoy this completely normal and professional photo of Kirsten and I lovingly staring into each other’s eyes in front of the conference backdrop LOL 🌟😂

These conferences are about education, yes… but they’re also about friendships, support systems, connection, and building a profession that feels a lot more connected across Canada 🇨🇦
