Raising kids and caring for an aging loved one?

You don't have to be the only one keeping all the plates spinning.

As the kids head back to school, look for ways to share some of the responsibility:

🍂 Need someone to check in? The Canadian Red Cross offers free Friendly Calls for regular social connection.

🍂 Need help finding local resources? Call 211 and ask about supports available for seniors and caregivers.

🍂 Looking for connection and activities? WE Seniors Edmonton is a wonderful community resource offering programs, social opportunities, wellness activities and support for older adults.

🍂 Feeling overwhelmed? Make a list of everything you're doing; appointments, groceries, meals, errands, check-ins, and see what can be shared, simplified or supported.

You don't have to do everything yourself to be there for someone you love.

We're proud to partner with organizations like WE Seniors Edmonton that help older adults stay connected, supported and engaged in their communities.

And if you're not sure where to start, give us a call. We're always happy to offer guidance.

Let’s say your mom has recently been assessed by AHS and you’ve been told she qualifies for home care.

You’re relieved. She’s going to get some help.

But then you start wondering…

“Who is actually going to provide the care?”

Here’s something many Alberta families don’t realize:

With Client-Directed Home Care Invoicing (CDHCI), eligible clients can have more choice in who provides their authorized home care services.

Instead of simply being assigned a provider, you can choose from approved providers that deliver the services outlined in your care plan.

For families, that can mean having more say in who comes into your loved one’s home and provides their care. When you're trusting someone with the care of someone you love, that choice matters.

Not sure how CDHCI works or whether it might apply to your situation?

We're happy to help you understand your options.

"I think we need a nurse."

It's one of the most common things we hear from families exploring home care.

While nurses provide essential clinical care, many people actually need support with daily living activities such as bathing, dressing, mobility, meal preparation, and personal care.

That's where Health Care Aides come in.

In Alberta, Health Care Aides are regulated professionals who play an important role in helping individuals maintain their independence, dignity, and quality of life at home. These caring professionals are typically who provide the every day care people need to stay in their homes.

Not sure what type of care is right for you or a loved one? We're happy to help.

When people hear "home care," they often picture seniors.

But home care can support people of all ages living with chronic illness, disability, injury, or changing care needs.

Whether you're navigating ALS, MS, recovering from surgery, managing a disability, or supporting a loved one, home care is about more than assistance with daily tasks.

It's about preserving independence, maintaining dignity, and empowering people to continue living life on their own terms in the comfort of home.

Because everyone deserves the support they need to be as independent as possible, regardless of age.

Could additional support at home help?

Home care isn't just for seniors. It can help anyone who is recovering from an injury, living with a disability, managing a chronic illness, or finding daily tasks more challenging.

Review the checklist and count your "yes" answers.

If you answered yes to 2 or more, it may be time to explore your options for support at home.

Sometimes a little extra help can make a big difference in maintaining independence and quality of life.

Choosing a home care provider is one of the most important decisions you can make for yourself or a loved one.

Not all home care agencies are the same, which is why it's wise to interview more than one before making your decision.

We've created this Agency Interview Guide to help you ask the right questions and compare providers with confidence. From staff training and retention to backup coverage, insurance, and communication, the answers can tell you a lot about the quality of care you can expect.

A quality home care agency will welcome your questions and be transparent about how they provide care.

đź“‹ Save this guide for future reference and share it with someone who may be starting their home care journey.

Have questions about home care or wondering what to look for in a provider? We'd be happy to help. Reach out to the team at Ember Healthcare, we're always happy to answer your questions, whether you're exploring your options or just looking for guidance.
