Missed a workout?

Changed your plan?

Needed to adjust because life got busy?

That doesn’t mean you’ve failed.

One of the most important skills in resistance training isn’t pushing harder—it’s learning how to adapt while continuing to move forward.

Flexibility doesn’t weaken your routine. It often helps you stay consistent long enough to see meaningful results.

The goal isn’t perfection.

The goal is finding an approach that works in real life.

What helps you stay active when your original plan doesn’t go as expected?

Hello to my new and existing followers alike and all of the mindful movers.

If you are new to the Medfit Community, then this is a great time to re-introduce myself!

Hi, I’m Lisa :) I am the founder of the MedFit Movement Studio; this also means I am your guide through all of the online and in-person (Edmonton) offerings available in the Studio.

I use multiple decades of experience in medical fitness, movement education, and mindfulness, as well as a science-based approach to well-being. I also combine this with a focus on compassion as I aim to help people move safely, restore balance, and reconnect with the quiet strength within. And for those who are available for the upcoming Mindful Movement sessions, you’ll get a better understanding of my approach to mindful movement.

Use these quotes, and/or the next Mindful Movement session, to move through the week with a greater sense of ease, enlightenment, and awareness.

Every spring, I see the same thing.

We spend months moving one way through the winter and then suddenly head outside and spend hours gardening.

Bending.
Reaching.
Kneeling.
Carrying.
Digging.

Then we wonder why we're feeling stiff or sore afterward.

Gardening may not be something we typically think of as exercise, but it is a form of physical activity. And like many physical activities, it asks quite a bit of our bodies.

That's why I like to think of warm-ups a little differently.

Not as injury prevention.

As rehearsal.

A chance to practice the very movements we're about to do.

In this week's blog, I share why I think warm-ups matter before gardening and how a few simple movements can help prepare your body for the work ahead.

🌱 Read the article here: https://www.lisaworkman.com/bloglettersfromlisa/the-gardening-habit-most-people-skip

I'd love to hear from you:

What movement in gardening does your body notice the most?

🌿 Bending
🌿 Kneeling
🌿 Reaching
🌿 Carrying
🌿 Getting up and down from the ground
🌿 Something else

Is your movement stuck in a box? 📦

When your hips feel tight, what’s your first instinct?

For many people, it’s to stretch.

But sometimes tightness isn’t about tight muscles at all.

Sometimes it’s about having fewer movement options available.

Think of your movement like a box. The smaller the box, the fewer directions your body feels comfortable exploring. The larger the box, the more choices you have when bending, reaching, walking, gardening, exercising, and moving through everyday life.

✨ More options
✨ More confidence
✨ More freedom

Your hips may not need more stretching.

They may simply need more variety.

🎥 Watch today’s video and see if your movement has been living inside a box.

👉 If you’re looking for practical ways to improve mobility, build confidence, and explore movement in a supportive environment, come join us inside the MedFit Movement Studio. You’ll find live classes, workshops, challenges, and a growing library of movement practices designed for real life.

How do you like to spend your Fridays?

For me, one of my favourite ways is teaching a workshop.

There’s something special about spending time with people who are curious, engaged, and willing to learn a little more about how their bodies move and function.

Today, I have the opportunity to do exactly that, and I’m looking forward to the conversations, questions, and discoveries that happen along the way.

Time to get started!

"My right knee is my bad knee."

"My left shoulder is the problem."

"My good hip is doing all the work."

I hear comments like this all the time.

And while I understand what people mean, I wonder if we're sometimes missing something important.

What if the side that feels strongest could actually help the side that is struggling?

This week's blog explores a fascinating concept from exercise science that changed the way I think about "good" sides and "bad" sides.

It also offers a more hopeful way to think about pain, injury, and recovery.

Have you ever caught yourself describing a body part as your "good" side or your "bad" side?

Momentum doesn’t always feel exciting.

Sometimes it looks like showing up.

Sometimes it looks like starting again.

Sometimes it looks like noticing that things feel just a little easier than they did before.

These questions guided our June Community Conversation inside The MedFit Movement Studio.

Take a moment to reflect on them for yourself.

Small actions matter. Small signs matter. Momentum often grows before we realize it’s happening.

This month inside Community Conversations, we explored the theme of momentum.

Momentum isn't always obvious.

Sometimes it's simply noticing that movement feels a little easier than before.

Sometimes it's returning to a routine after time away.

Sometimes it's recognizing that you're still moving forward, even when life gets busy.

This month's conversation began with three reflection questions:

• What tends to interrupt your momentum?
• What signs tell you that momentum is building, even if the changes feel small?
• What small action could help you keep moving forward this month?

Momentum doesn't require pushing harder.

It often begins by noticing what's already working.

💗

Community Conversations happen on the first Friday of each month inside The MedFit Movement Studio, where we explore movement, ask questions, and learn from one another.
