I love this poem by Wendell Berry soooo much ā£ļøā£ļø
It really captures what we are all looking for and have a sense of. That we are not separate from the whole. That we are always connected and always whole, but just choose to be absent from it.
Being whole is in the first instance to be Me and accept me, the kind of self I have. Like accepting a coat that I was given when I was born, instead of trying to change it or throw it away. Accepting myself is relaxing, because I can stop trying to improve something that is only a tiny little part of who and what I am.
I am, you are, a whole world. Levels and levels of depth and knowledge. But, it never gets to be here if I donāt open to it, open to my own inner depths.
What keeps me from opening and softening and going deeper is a lack of groundedness and a nervous system that has become rigid and structured and easily triggered and influenced by circumstances and others. These are the trauma responses and coping mechanisms I use,to avoid being hurt again, but I am then also successfully avoiding opening to greater understanding, of myself and others around me. I keep on moving in these patterned ways and repeating same old stories, beliefs and ideas.
Somatic healing is to break free from these old patterned ways of thinking and moving!! Breaking open from old, old narratives. Narratives that are often inherited from our parents and grandparents⦠reliving the same old beliefs, structured behaviours and even emotions that our ancestors couldnāt own and integrate.
Accepting myself as it is, is often the first step towards opening to the rest of me. Starting to touch old hurts and trauma with tenderness, embracing them, instead of rejecting them into the unconscious or projecting them into others.
In doing so, I open in to Life.
I open myself to Love againš©· and this is totally life changing. My whole experience of myself and life will alter and I return to the Whole of me, to my body and nervous system and to Earth, Gaia, Her. I remember I belong. I belong to something greater than just this separate little Self. And, I can feel the otherness or other realities that are existing alongside this one. Returning home.
