We talked about why oral health is health, the signs and symptoms of oral cancers, how to access public dental programs like the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP), and how to find a dentist close to home.

For 43 years, Dr. David Skuba has practiced dentistry at Bonnyville Dental Clinic by day, and served as an EMS paramedic in his community on nights and weekends. On top of that? Three volunteer dental missions to Guatemala and Peru, providing free care to people who had none.

Over the last 43 years, the technology has changed and the service has moved from volunteer-based to staffed, but the paramedic shifts continue to be “that change that’s as a good as a rest” for David Skuba.

👏 Congrats to Mike Petryk School of Dentistry researchers Prasanna Neelakantan, and Khaled Altabtbaei. They are among the six projects at the U of A that is each receiving a $250,000 grant from the federal New Frontiers in Research Fund.
