What is the toughest belt to go through?
To me it’s the white belt. Because for years you contemplate whether or not you should train to begin with. You wait for that right moment or for the worst moment to finally step into a dojo. Either way, the moment you start - if you’re willing to dance with your ego and not quit to soon - you’re forced to learn who you really are and what you’re capable of. You’re forced to slow things down when you go too fast, and speed things up when you go to slow. You’re forced to recognize that there’s value in stillness and success in being the least smartest in the room. Earning a blue belt is such a big deal at first to people because of all the changes you made from the moment you put that belt on to the moment it’s time to evolve.
I reflect on all this now as we come close to our next Belt Testing. And we just got some new Bravé white belts in so might as well show how cool they look 🙏🕺
