Have you ever tried so hard to calm yourself down that calming down became another thing you were failing at?

You do the breathing exercise
You try to meditate
You tell yourself to relax

And when your body still feels tense, your mind is still racing, or you’re still overwhelmed by the world around you, you end up frustrated with yourself on top of everything else

But you don’t have to earn the right to feel better by mastering the perfect regulation technique

Sometimes what helps isn’t a dramatic shift

It’s a small kindness that makes this moment a little more manageable

Less noise
More warmth
A pause before answering that message
Permission to change your plans
A few minutes outside, noticing the world without needing to accomplish anything

And sometimes, even when the feeling doesn’t change, the way you respond to yourself can

You can stop treating your anxiety as a failure

You can stop demanding that your exhaustion justify itself

You can give yourself permission to have a hard moment without making it harder by fighting your own experience

Not every tool works for every person, and what feels supportive can change from day to day

You get to experiment, notice and choose what’s best for YOU, which will change from moment to moment as well

No perfect calm required

Just a little more space to be where you are

Save this for a day when everything feels like a bit too much

And send it to someone who needs the reminder that they don’t have to do everything perfectly - not even healing

Wishing you wellness and ease

Sometimes, the hardest part of coming back to yourself is realising how long you’ve been living at a distance from your own needs

There is a lot of grief in that realisation

You might be so used to being the understanding one, the adaptable one, the person who can handle anything, that it barely registers when you’re uncomfortable

You might even feel more at ease taking care of everyone else than allowing someone to take care of you

And when you begin to do things differently, it can feel surprisingly uncomfortable

You might feel guilty for saying no, selfish for resting, or anxious when someone else isn’t happy with your decision

That doesn’t necessarily mean you’re doing something wrong

Sometimes, it means you’re learning to move beyond patterns that once helped you feel safe, loved, or accepted, when really you weren’t truly any of those things in that state of being

You don’t have to become someone who cares less about other people

You get to become someone whose care includes YOU, too

And you don’t have to change everything overnight

You can begin with a pause

A moment of noticing

A little curiosity about what YOU feel, what YOU need, and what might happen if you allowed that to matter

Coming back to yourself can be slow, tender work

You deserve patience while you learn

If this resonates, save it for a day when you need the reminder

And if you’re looking for a quiet space to slow down and reconnect with yourself, Craniosacral Therapy can offer an opportunity to listen to your body without needing to perform, explain, or have everything figured out

There are some parts of the body that completely change the way you think about it once you learn they exist

The meninges are one of those structures for me

I love the idea that there is an entire living, layered system of tissue between the hard walls of the skull and the delicate nervous system within

Not just a protective barrier, but part of the incredibly complex environment in which the brain and spinal cord exist

And it makes me think about how often we imagine the nervous system as something contained inside the body, when really, it is deeply embedded in a whole web of relationships

Bone
Connective tissue
Fluid
Blood vessels
Nerves
Membranes

Nothing is truly separate

This is one of the things that keeps me fascinated by anatomy: the more closely you look, the harder it becomes to draw neat boundaries between “structures” and “systems”

The body is much more interconnected than our diagrams and whatnot make it appear

If we treat the body like the ecosystem that it is, we are much more likely to heal than if we treat each element or symptom as something separate

What actually happens when you come for a Craniosacral Therapy (CST) session?

If you’ve never experienced CST before, it can be difficult to picture what “gentle, hands-on nervous system support” actually means

And I honestly find it hard to explain sometimes!

So here’s a little peek into the treatment room, anyway

We begin by talking. Then you get comfortable, fully clothed, and the session unfolds through quiet, attentive touch

There is no performance required

You don’t have to know how to relax

You don’t have to empty your mind or tell me everything that’s ever happened to you

Every body has its own way of responding, and I work by meeting *your* experience rather than trying to make the session fit a predetermined script

If you’ve been curious about Craniosacral Therapy but weren’t quite sure what to expect, I hope this helps make the treatment room feel a little less mysterious for you

And if you’re ready to experience it for yourself, I’d love to welcome you

For some people, birth is relatively straightforward. For others, it involves forceps, breech positioning, significant compression, an umbilical cord around the neck, a difficult delivery, or other forms of physical stress

We don’t always know what impact those experiences may have later in life

And I obviously don’t think every difficulty someone experiences can be traced back to their birth

But I’ve become increasingly fascinated by what happens when we give the body an opportunity to work with longstanding patterns

I’ve seen clients who have carried particular ways of holding, bracing or organising themselves for decades begin to experience meaningful changes through Craniosacral Therapy

Sometimes the change is subtle. Sometimes it’s surprisingly profound.
And sometimes I find myself thinking: this pattern may have been here for an incredibly long time - and yet the body is still capable of changing it

That never stops amazing me

We tend to think of old injuries and longstanding patterns as things we just have to live with

But the body is not static. It is constantly adapting, responding and reorganising

I don’t think we give it enough credit for how much capacity for change remains available to us, even many decades after something first happened

We don’t force change with Craniosacral Therapy

We listen

We create space and safety

We offer gentle guidance

And then we can see what the body already knows how to do

Sometimes the possibility of change is much bigger than we thought

If you know you had a difficult birth, or you’ve always wondered whether something from those very early days might still be influencing how you hold yourself today, I’d love to invite you to get curious about it

You don’t need to know whether there is a connection

You don’t need to have the story figured out

You can just listen and see what your body has to say

Of all the places I work with, the jaw is one of the ones that I feel most fulfilled working with

We can unconsciously hold so much there

So the shifts can be significant when that holding finally changes

I don’t think every tight jaw has an emotional cause, and I don’t think every sensation needs to be decoded into a story

Bodies are more complicated than that

But I do think it’s worth becoming curious about the places where we habitually brace

What happens when you unclench your teeth?

What happens when your tongue softens?

What happens when you let your face become less guarded?

Sometimes the answer is just, “Oh wow, that feels good”

And sometimes something much deeper happens

One of the reasons I love Craniosacral Therapy is that we don’t have to force those changes

We can create the conditions for the body to feel safe enough to experiment with letting go

And the jaw is often a beautiful place to begin

If you’ve been carrying tension there for a long time, you may be surprised by how much relief can come from giving that part of your body some attention

If you’d like to work with me to start releasing that, my booking links are in my bio

There are so many things I love about simple nervous-system tools:

They don’t require you to understand everything that’s happening before you can try them

When we’re overwhelmed, we often want to think our way back to feeling better

Sometimes that works

Sometimes the thinking is actually part of the problem 😅

The physiological sigh gives you another route in:

Through the body

And I particularly like tools that are gentle invitations rather than instructions to “regulate yourself” perfectly

You don’t have to make yourself calm

You don’t have to get your nervous system into some ideal state

You can just experiment and notice whether your body responds

That’s really the theme I’d come back to with any calming tool:

Curiosity over performance

Try it when you remember

See what happens

And if it doesn’t do much for you, that’s useful information too

Bodies are wonderfully individual, and no single technique works for everyone

Sometimes the most useful thing we can learn is just:

What helps my body feel a little more supported right now?

One of the greatest lessons Craniosacral Therapy has taught me is that healing isn’t linear

We often assume that once the “main problem” is gone, the work is finished

But what I see in practice is something quite different

The body has an incredible ability to prioritise

When someone first comes to see me, there are often more immediate concerns asking for attention:

Pain, stress, overwhelm, injury, or nervous system dysregulation

Those patterns naturally take precedence

As they begin to resolve, it’s not uncommon for older layers to gently come forward

Sometimes they’re connected to injuries that happened years ago

Sometimes decades ago

Not because the body has suddenly developed a new problem, but because it finally has enough capacity to address something that has quietly been sitting in the background all along

(This story is shared with my client’s consent)

I never stop being amazed by the body’s ability to adapt, protect, and - when given the right support - continue moving toward healing, even many years later

Have you ever had an old injury that you’d almost forgotten about until your body reminded you it was still there?

Wishing you wellness and ease
