🌿 Stevia leaf vs. stevia extract āž”ļø what’s the difference?

Stevia leaf is the plant in a less processed form, while stevia extract is a concentrated source of the plant’s sweet compounds.

Neither automatically makes a product ā€œgoodā€ or ā€œbad.ā€ What matters is the form, the amount, and what else is in the product.

✨ Don’t just read the marketing on the front. Make sure to flip it over and read the ingredients.

That’s where the real information is.

Stevia extract may not be the best choice for everyone, especially if you have a sensitive digestive system.
Pay attention to how your body responds and check the full ingredient list for other sweeteners and additives.

Temperatures shift. Routines shift.

These also should shift:

šŸ„• Nourishing with seasonal colourful fruits & vegetables, quality protein, healthy fats and fibre.

šŸ’§ Hydrating to support circulation, digestion and the body’s natural detoxification pathways.

😓 Prioritizing sleep one of the most overlooked pieces of immune resilience.

ā˜€ļø Getting outside or opening windows as fresh air, movement and natural light all matter.

🦠 Supporting the gut as a healthy gut environment plays an important role in immune function.

šŸ§˜ā€ā™€ļø Managing stress which kids’ bodies feel stress too, and chronic stress can impact immune resilience.

You don’t have to wait until you are sick to start supporting the body.

Build the foundation now. 🌿

As a Certified Holistic Nutrition Consultant, one of my greatest passions is helping children thrive.

I work with families who are looking for answers beyond symptom management by exploring nutrition, gut health, sleep, lifestyle, and other factors that can influence a child’s overall wellness.

Whether your child is dealing with allergies, asthma, ADHD, digestive concerns, picky eating, eczema, or simply isn’t feeling their best, every assessment is individualized to meet them where they are.

My role isn’t to diagnose or replace medical care…it’s to complement it with evidence informed nutrition and lifestyle support that empowers families with practical, sustainable strategies that fits to lifestyle and does not overwhelm families.

✨ Every child deserves the opportunity to thrive.

1. Are they eating whole foods enough?
Growing bodies + active kids need consistent fuel.

2. Are they getting enough protein?
Protein supports growth, muscle, hormones, neurotransmitters and recovery.

3. How is their sleep?
Sleep is foundational for mood, focus, immunity and athletic performance.

4. Are they moving?
Daily movement supports circulation, nervous-system regulation, digestion and overall health.

Supplements can support the foundation.
They don’t replace it.

These foundations can have a HUGE impact on how kids feel, function, focus, recover and grow.

As parents, it’s easy to see a symptom and immediately look for something to give them.

But sometimes the better question is:

ā€œWhat is their body missing?ā€

That’s where I start with pediatric holistic nutrition.

We look beyond the symptom and work toward understanding the bigger picture.

Master the basics. Then build from there.

Follow PhaseWellness for practical, realistic nutrition and wellness support for kids, teens and youth athletes.

Kids are kids. Their minds and bodies are growing so much that when it comes to eating…this can feel overwhelming with tastes, textures, and simply new exposure.

You don’t have to force your child to eat kale salads to improve their nutrition. Sometimes the biggest wins come from the tiny changes they never notice.

Her are some ways we boost nutrition:

🄦 Steam riced cauliflower with rice.

🧁 Blend zucchini, spinach, carrots, or pumpkin into banana chocolate muffins. The banana overpowers the other flavours.

šŸ¤Ž Add cinnamon to baking whenever it fits as this adds flavour and contains beneficial plant compounds.

šŸ’› Sprinkle a little turmeric into soups, sauces, taco meat, casseroles, or scrambled eggs for an easy nutrient boost and anti inflammatory

🄣 Swap sour cream for Greek Yogurt, or use it in baking to increase protein and add beneficial nutrients.

šŸ„• Stir finely grated vegetables into pasta sauce, meatballs, burgers, or chili.

🄜 Add oats or ground flax (if tolerated) into muffins, pancakes, or meatloaf for extra fibre and nutrients.

✨ Every bite is an opportunity to nourish a growing body.

The goal isn’t perfection… it’s consistent exposure. Children often need to be exposed to foods many times before they begin accepting them. As nutrient intake improves and their bodies receive the vitamins, minerals, healthy fats, protein, and fibre they need, many parents notice positive changes in energy, mood, focus, digestion, and overall well-being.

At Phase Wellness, we look beyond ā€œpicky eatingā€ with body assessments to understand why it’s happening and create practical strategies that support both your child and your family.

Before food could be shipped across the world, our bodies naturally adapted to the foods available in each season. But eating around the seasons is still important!

Fresh, local, in-season foods are not only more fresh and lower cost but also:
šŸ“ Higher in vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants because they’re harvested at peak ripeness.

🌾 More diverse, encouraging you to eat a wider variety of nutrients throughout the year.

🦠 Supportive of a healthier gut microbiome by naturally rotating the foods and plant compounds you consume.

šŸŒŽ Better for the environment by requiring less transportation and storage.

ā¤ļø A great way to support local farmers and your community.

Your body thrives on variety. Instead of eating the same handful of foods every week, let the seasons inspire your plate.

This week, challenge yourself to add one seasonal fruit and one seasonal vegetable to your meals and notice the difference in taste, freshness, and overall feeling.

Most people wait until symptoms become loud before they ask for help. Your body has usually been sending signals for months or even years. Listening sooner can make all the difference.

One of the most underrated things you can do for your health is simply step outside.

Nature isn’t just a beautiful backdrop…it’s a powerful way to support your body and mind.

ā˜€ļø Natural light helps regulate your circadian rhythm, which supports better sleep and balanced hormones.

🌿 Time outdoors can help calm the nervous system and reduce stress.

🚶 Fresh air and movement improve circulation, energy, and mood.

🧠 Spending time in nature has been linked to improved focus, mental clarity, and overall well-being.

šŸ’š Even 10–20 minutes outside each day can make a meaningful difference.

Health doesn’t always require another supplement or complicated routine. Sometimes, the most effective habits are the simplest ones.

This is your reminder to take your coffee outside, go for a walk, play with your kids, sit in the sunshine, or simply pause and take a few deep breaths in fresh air.

Your body will thank you.

ā€œI’ll start after ______.ā€

It’s one of the biggest things I hear and one of the biggest reasons healthy habits don’t stick.

The truth is, if you’re always waiting until after the vacation, the holidays, or the busy season, you’ll always find another reason to put your health on hold.

Perfection doesn’t exist, and it isn’t something we should strive for. Not only is it unrealistic, but it’s also exhausting for your mental health. Instead, focus on what you can control.

Choose protein when you can. Stay hydrated. Add some movement to your day. Enjoy the local treats without guilt. Slow down and savour the experience.

I often suggest to clients to follow an 80/20 approach…80% nourishing choices and 20% simply enjoying life. That balance allows one to stay consistent without feeling restricted.

A healthy lifestyle isn’t built by being perfect. It’s built by making the best choices you can, wherever you are.

Vacation isn’t the problem. The all or nothing mindset is.

Your health should fit into your life and not the other way around. Build habits that are sustainable at home, on vacation, and everywhere in between. That’s where lasting results happen.

Nature has a way of slowing us down. Feeling the earth beneath your feet, listening to the waves or the birds, breathing fresh air, and soaking up natural light all send signals of safety to your brain and body.

Grounding in nature may help:
🌿 Calm the nervous system
ā˜€ļø Reduce stress and cortisol
šŸ’š Support mood and mental clarity
🌊 Encourage deeper breathing and relaxation
✨ Bring you back to the present moment

Balancing your system doesn’t always start with doing more. Sometimes it starts with reconnecting to the foundations our bodies were designed for.

Take 10-20 minutes today. Walk barefoot, sit by the water, wander through the trees, or simply pause and breathe.

Your nervous system will thank you.
