Recovery Reflections ✨

Jorja shared her recovery reflections with us. Her words were honest, heartfelt, and a reminder of how much growth can happen when we commit to our healing journey. It takes courage to look inward, face our challenges, and share those experiences with others.

She spoke about the importance of ceremony and how it has supported her healing. Ceremony provides connection—to Creator, to culture, to community, and to ourselves. It creates space for reflection, gratitude, guidance, and strength during both the difficult and joyful moments of recovery.

We are proud of Jorja and grateful that she shared part of her journey with us. Her reflections remind us that healing is possible, that recovery is a path worth walking, and that cultural teachings and ceremony continue to play an important role in helping us find balance and wellness.

Miigwetch, Jorja, for your courage, wisdom, and willingness to inspire others. ❤️🪶

There is something powerful about beginning the day in a good way. 🌿✨💜

At Destiny, mornings start with smudging, drumming, and singing. Smudging helps us clear our minds, hearts, and spirits, allowing us to set aside yesterday’s burdens and focus on the present moment. The medicines remind us to move through the day with respect, gratitude, and intention.

The drum is often called the heartbeat of Mother Earth. As we gather together and feel the rhythm, we are reminded that we are connected—to Creator, to one another, and to our own healing journeys. Singing lifts our spirits, strengthens our sense of belonging, and helps carry our prayers and gratitude into the day.

For many relatives in recovery, these morning practices create a sense of grounding and peace. They help reduce stress, encourage mindfulness, and remind us that healing is not just physical—it is emotional, mental, and spiritual as well.

Each sunrise is a new opportunity to walk forward in a good way, one prayer, one song, and one heartbeat at a time. 🪶🪘✨ Happy Saturday everyone.

Mental Health Matters 💜

PTSD and Addiction

Many people living with addiction are also carrying the weight of trauma. For some, substances become a way to cope with painful memories, anxiety, nightmares, hypervigilance, or overwhelming emotions associated with PTSD.

PTSD is not a sign of weakness. It is a response to experiencing or witnessing trauma. Addiction is not a moral failing. Often, it is an attempt to survive pain that feels unbearable.

Healing is possible. Recovery involves more than stopping the use of substances—it means learning new ways to cope, rebuilding trust, finding safety, and reconnecting with ourselves and others.

At Destiny Recovery and Wellness Centre, we recognize the connection between trauma and addiction. Through supportive relationships, cultural connection, land-based healing, therapy, and community, individuals can begin to heal both the wounds they can see and the ones they cannot.

💜 You are not your trauma.
💜 You are not your addiction.
💜 You are worthy of healing, hope, and recovery.

Despite the rainy evening yesterday, our spirits were high! 🌧️🪶

We were delighted to jig and dance together, sharing laughter, culture, and connection. The sound of the music and the movement of the dance brought warmth and fun to the night, reminding us that healing can be found in joy, community, and celebrating who we are.

Miigwech to everyone who joined in and made the evening a good one! ❤️

Today, we reflect on the Seven Sacred Teachings and how they guide us on our healing journeys and in our daily lives. These teachings remind us of the values that help us live in a good way.

🐺 Today we reflect on the teaching of Humility, Dabaadendiziwin , represented by the Wolf.

The Wolf reminds us that none of us walk alone. Wolves survive and thrive through cooperation, loyalty, and caring for the well-being of the pack. In the same way, humility teaches us to recognize that we are all connected and that every person has value and gifts to offer.

Humility is not thinking less of ourselves—it is understanding that we are no more important than anyone else. It means being willing to learn, accepting support when we need it, and offering support to others when we can.

In recovery, humility can be one of the greatest strengths. It allows us to ask for help, remain open to growth, and remember that healing happens through connection, community, and relationships.

Today, we honour the Wolf and the teaching of Humility as we continue walking the path of healing together. 🐺❤️

Today, our Grandmother Drum stood ready to witness a beautiful and sacred moment as three relatives begin the journey of receiving their Spirit Names.

The Grandmother Drum carries the heartbeat of Mother Earth. She brings people together in prayer, connection, healing, and ceremony. Her voice reminds us of who we are, where we come from, and the responsibilities we carry as we walk our path.

Receiving a Spirit Name is a meaningful gift—one that reflects identity, purpose, and connection to Creator, ancestors, and community. It is an honour to witness these relatives take this important step on their journey.

Please join us in sending prayers, love, and good thoughts to these three relatives as they receive their names and continue walking their good path.

We were honoured and grateful to attend the Blue Jean Jacket Day awareness walk in support of Missing, Murdered, and Exploited Indigenous Men and Boys.

This important day brings communities together to raise awareness, honour those who are missing, remember those who have been lost, and support the families and loved ones affected. We were happy to stand alongside others in solidarity, reflection, and commitment to truth, healing, and justice.

🩵 Every step taken helps ensure that Indigenous men and boys are not forgotten and that their stories continue to be heard.
