Help Provide Safety and Support for Families Living with Autism

Help Provide Safety and Support for Families Living with Autism New Brunswick Autism Resource Centres have applied for the Aviva Community Fund to help support our two project ideas. Please help us by VOTING daily!

Did you know that 1 in 68 people are currently living with autism? That means over 11,000 people in New Brunswick! Did you also know that close to 50% of N.B. lives in a rural area? WHAT WE HOPE TO DO:
1.) Send staff into rural areas one day a week
a. To provide face-to-face support to individuals and families living in rural New Brunswick
b. To assist families find, obtain, and fill out forms for

necessary services
c. To educate communities through visiting public institutions and raising awareness regarding Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) via school presentations; running information booths, etc.

2.) Offer resources to the families through
a. Lending books, DVDs, toys, etc. from the centers’ libraries
b. Bringing a portable laptop and printer for families to use during visits

3.) To address the safety issue, we hope to create a box of safety items for families affected by ASD
a. Each box can be personalized to meet the families’ needs
b. May contain: temporary tattoos with emergency contact info; window-clings to alert emergency personnel; window and door alarms; wrist bands; identification tags; family emergency plan forms, etc.

50% of the funding would go towards sending staff into rural communities and the other 50% would go towards the safety items for families. Please VOTE for this project daily at:
