👋🦠 Did you know that hand hygiene is one of the most important ways to prevent the spread of infections in healthcare settings?

In Québec, healthcare facilities regularly audit hand-hygiene practices. For example, CIUSSS de l’Estrie–CHUS reached the provincial target of 80% compliance in 2019

But infection prevention goes far beyond washing our hands!

🏥 Common reasons for additional precautions or isolation in Québec healthcare settings include:

🦠 C. difficile — may require a private room or cohorting, gloves, gown, enhanced cleaning and dedicated precautions.

🧫 MRSA/SARM — additional precautions may include gloves, gown, environmental cleaning and appropriate room placement.

🧫 VRE/ERV — similar additional precautions may be required depending on the patient and healthcare setting.

😷 Respiratory infections — such as influenza, COVID-19 and other respiratory illnesses can require specific precautions based on the situation and the facility’s current policies.

🫁 Airborne infections such as suspected measles require specific airborne precautions, including appropriate respiratory protection and, when available, a negative-pressure room.

This is why infection prevention and control is such an important part of our programs!

Our LPN and PAB students learn about:
✔️ Hand hygiene
✔️ Standard precautions
✔️ Additional precautions and isolation
✔️ PPE
✔️ Cleaning and disinfection
✔️ Prevention of cross-contamination
✔️ Safe patient care practices
✔️ Protecting themselves, their colleagues and their patients

Because in healthcare, infection control isn’t just a theory lesson — it’s a daily responsibility. 🧼

* At the end of the selection process, the successful candidate is hired as a Beneficiary Attendant (PAB) at an hourly rate of $29.37

* The candidate must commit to an employment contract of at least one (1) year

✅Eligibility:

* CIUSSS de l’Estrie–CHUS accepts applications from students 17 years of age and older.

* To be eligible, candidates must begin their DEP training between April 1, 2026 and March 31, 2027.

1. Admission to the DEP SSAESSS program: The candidate must first be admitted to the required DEP training program.
