Holidays can be stressful af 🤯 let’s be honest.

For a multitude of reasons: grief, finances, busyness, family. As much as there is to be grateful for, there is also stress, overwhelm, & exhaustion. It’s not just you. It’s all of us 💛

Recognizing the reality that holidays can be stressful, and planning how to cope can help to get through the difficult moments so that we can truly enjoy the beautiful ones 🎄

Being intentional can keep us from acting in ways we aren’t proud of and getting stuck in the spiral of low mood and anxiety 🌪️

In this video, I’ll talk about some specific strategies to manage stress over the holiday so that you can offer yourself compassion and savor moments with the people you love.

Feeling out of control or caught in the chaos & overwhelm of emotion can leave us asking “WHY AM I LIKE THIS? WHAT’S WRONG WITH ME?”

I’ll always be the guy to tell you there is nothing wrong with you - we are all the way we are for a reason. At the same time, I understand that big emotions can cause big trouble in our lives - I know that frustration very well.

I also know that it’s genuinely useful to understand how these patterns develop:

- Why it is that emotion can come in like a storm and leave us feeling powerless
- Where we learned that we can’t trust ourselves & our emotions
- How the cycle of explosion and shame keeps us stuck

By understanding these cycles we can learn how to intervene effectively.

We can start to feel confident in our ability to manage emotion, advocate for ourselves, & maintain meaningful connection with others.

We can develop compassion toward our own experiences.
And step into a sense of resilience, calm, & hope for the future.

Hands up ✋ if you don’t LOVE asking for what you need.

Most of us have been socialized & learned through experience that asking for what we need & saying no are things to be avoided.

We don’t want to be a burden
We want to put others first & be helpful
We aren’t taught as children how to set boundaries & assert our needs.

This becomes particularly difficult when we are living with depression, anxiety & overwhelming emotion.
We learn not to trust our emotions as guides for what we need.
We easily think of ourselves as “too much”
We learn to deal with things internally.

All of this leaves us in a lonely & frustrating place:
• Alone & disconnected
• Exhausted & resentful
With a sense of wanting more from ourselves & our relationships; a deep knowing that there is another way of being.

In this video I speak about understanding ourselves & mindfully applying concrete tools to ask for what we need & say no.

When we are able to validate ourselves & use structured tools we are able to communicate with intention so that we can meet our own needs, protect our relationships & access a sense of self-assurance and confidence.

Communication tools help us to give voice to our experience, build stronger and more meaningful connections & develop a deep knowledge for how to take care of ourselves.

Effective communication is a stand for ourselves
A statement of protection of your precious being
It’s a stand for our relationships
A deep knowing that they can hold space for our needs & boundaries
