To all of those who have heard me talk about how important the walk and warm are .. here you go! Proof I'm not just nagging you. 😜
Why are we wasting the walk?! 🚷
You can do a lot of valuable work at the walk. Lateral work, core engagement, extended, collected, poles, sharpening voice and seat cues... you name it!
While it may not be a strenuous cardio workout, it is most definitely strength training. Especially if you’re adding hills or varied terrain. Not to mention it’s low impact and it can also be incredibly beneficial for -but not limited to- green or anxious horses.
Picture this💭
👉🏼Doing 15-20 mins of varied work at the walk
Versus
👉🏼Trot/cantering in circles for 45 mins
If you are only ever doing option 2, then you’re doing your horse a disservice.
I know we all love to ride at the trot & canter, but riding laps around the arena is only going to do so much for your horse.
A typical ride doesn’t have to consist of the same walk, trot, canter routine every time.
Get out of your head and your routine- and GET CREATIVE with your rides!
