Bringing national standards to Nova Scotia patient transfers.

​A smooth-running patient transfer service means a hospital bed can be freed up within the hour, and an exhausted patient gets home, settled, and more comfortable.

​In other provinces, the standard for unscheduled transfers is often 1–2 hours with the hospitals being able to choose from multiple providers which results in more timely and affordable service. In Nova Scotia, we can and should meet that same benchmark.

We were on a mission this week! ❄️
​The weather tried to slow things down, but our team showed up (and shoveled!) to ensure people made it to long-awaited procedures and others got home safely and settled in after lengthy hospital stays.
​Beyond the transport, we shared so many great stories and moments along the way.
We were able to free up hospital beds within an hour—at a time when waits for other transfer services were reaching 12+ hours.
​When we support the people, we support the entire healthcare system. We are proud to contribute to alleviating the strain on the healthcare system and giving hospital patients a really great and reliable experience when needing specialized transportation to access healthcare.

In support of Heart Month, we’re sharing the NS AED registry. Our team stays updated on these locations as part of our commitment to be the safest patient transfer service in the country.

But safety also means comfort. On long hauls, we coordinate "Health Stops" at professional care communities to assist clients who need more than a standard transfer to the washroom and are beyond a 1 or 2 person stand and pivot assist. It is more dignified than using in-transit personal care supplies such as bed pans, and certainly more comfortable than being wet.

Nova Scotia Health is sharing information about the EHS AED Registry, delivered by Nova Scotia Emergency Health Services. The registry helps identify where Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) are located across Nova Scotia, an important tool during a cardiac emergency.

A newer addition to the registry is the use of GoodSAM technology, which can help alert nearby trained responders and point them to registered AEDs while emergency services are on the way. Learn more: https://www.goodsamapp.org/NSAED
